maxxyz?what can it control?

can the maxxyz by martin control betapack2's? as I am refiting our venue and am thing of getting a desk like this or this desk.

Personally, I'd say that if you have to ask this question, you DON'T want the Maxxyz.

 

The Maxxyz is an extremely powerful moving lights desk, with standard command-line and submaster capabilities with generic dimmers.

 

It outputs 8 standard DMX-512A universes, plus ethernet connectivity for extra universes and other external clever bits.

 

So if your existing Betapacks have a DMX input, then it will control them. Otherwise you'll need a suitable demux to convert DMX512 into the analogue levels used by analogue dimmers.

 

But I say again - if you have to ask this question, you DON'T want a Maxxyz.

 

You'll be better off with something smaller, such as the Sirius or the Frog, or one of the small command-line desks like a Strand 300.

I agree with Tomo 100%, if you have to ask (No disrespect) then the Maxxyz is probably not going to be the desk for you. Also if your dimmers are Beta 2's then you probably don't have the budget to get one either (again no disrespect to you).

I agree with all of the above. And if you do have the budget for a Maxxyz, then you probably still don't want one, you should save the cash and look at your dimming or fixtures. Why not consider the Avo Pearl if you want ML control, or as others have said a Strand 300series if you want a decent command line desk which has pretty much industry standard software (for theatre).

Hehe! Agree with what the others say - if you have to ask whether a Maxxyz can run dimmers, you really shouldn't be getting a Maxxyz.

 

And I have to say, a Maxxyz hooked up to a couple of Betapacks is quite an entertaining image - rather like having the cockpit of a Formula 1 car hooked up to a 125cc moped engine .... :o

do you really mean the Maxyzz or actually the Xciter which is a few thousand cheaper and would control a couple of beta packs, providing that they are DMX dimmers or you had a suitable DeMux ... Now saying all this if you did have many hundred beta packs then the Maxyzz could be for you!!!

What sort of venue is it and what is the scope of the refit? There have already been a number of threads on venue refits, which might well contain information you will find useful, if you spend some time reading through the forums and using the Search function ;)
