Sound engineer rate

Hi Guys,

Been working on sound for a couple years now in musical theatre and band work.

Been thinking about how much should I be charging for band work.

I have a good knowledge of sound and feel my mixing is of a good standard.

But does anyone have an idea as to how much I should charge for an evenings work say get in @ 3 and finish midnight for a pub/bar/club band. (I appreciate every gig is a little different)

I'll be using my own equipment for each gig.

Asking the question, to make sure I'm not over charging for a service.

:)

Thanks guys,

3 solutions:

1 - how much does it cost you (include all costs - transport, time, wear on kit, insurance, keeping a pot of money for when things go wrong think hard!), plus a profit margin

2 - as much as you can get away with charging, start high and negotiate down

3 - analyse the local market and work out the going rate for the quality of service you provide
