soundman57
Hi folks, I'm considering a couple of LED follow spots for use in AmDram shows, comedy shows and for live bands. All of these shows are at the smaller end of the market so high end 'pro' gear can't be afforded/justified. I'd appreciate some suggestions and comments if you have direct experience of particular makes.I'm familiar with some Chauvet products and note they offer LED follow spots - any knowledge of them? Good or bad? Cheers, soundman57
Amy Worrall
Did you choose one in the end? I'm also interested in this…
Judge
Cheap LED usually means nasty grey or pink light. Or maybe flickering. As followspot is primarily a key light this is A Bad Thing. Why does it have to be LED?
astuartm
Saw the Chauvet one at the BPM show, looked quite powerful and a very white light.. though all depends on how far you will want you throw..
Amy Worrall
Why does it have to be LED? For me it doesn't have to be — I was interested to see what was out there. Cheapness, low power usage, and no risk of lamps going mid-show were all advantages… but I'm not wedded to LED.
Judge
Fair enough. I take your point about cheap to run, long bulb life etc, plus less chance of burnage for spot ops ( though that risk adds to the fun - opping a carbon arc Gladiator spot felt like a properly dangerous job!)I have no experience with LED followspots, I can only say that a cheap tungsten or discharge spot will probably give a better light quality that el cheapo LED. The Chauvet LED Followspot 75ST. Is only good if you have a very short throw. I use two to light a mirror ball, and there not that bright at all.
