used lights

hello, I am reworking a mid sided to large set up needing to get some lights :) I have looked on ebay and other sites cant seem to find anything worth the time to buy. unless I want to drop 5k each ** laughs out loud ** any one know of a good light source or where I could get some good lights and not rob the bank? also I have a martin mini profile *works* and martin mac 250 profile *needs board* I would like to part out or sale. just let me know thanks guys.

Hi there.

 

Couple of things for starters - your location just says 'VA' which in the absence of anything more concrete I can only assume somewhere in Virginia in the US? Maybe you can elaborate and update your profile so we have a better idea of where you're from.

 

Next up, you need to tell the forum what it is you actually want to use these lights for. Again your profile just says something about a nightclub - is this where you want to use them?

 

And next there's a whole world of 'lights' out there, so some idea of what exactly you are looking for - fixed profiles/washes, simple PAR cans, moving lights, etc.

 

And what sort of area are you lighting? Small intimate nightclub or medium to large concern? Or is it a small or larger stage space you're looking at?

 

Finally a word on buying second hand - you CAN get some very good deals on Fleabay and the like, BUT Caveat Emptor (Buyer beware) - you need to be very careful about what you buy. Very few second hand Fleabay dealers will have any warranty worth a spit so when your box of kit arrives and doesn't quite do everything you expect it to there's seldom much you can do to get it resolved.

Yes I am from the USA and its going to be a mixture of a nightclub bar with big stage for live bands and shows.

 

I would like to find some good scanners and moving heads. and some washes. for the dance floor. the stage I am not sure what I would need the roof is steal beam about 20 feet tall so throw will not be an issue I am going to need to start smaller with the light set up of course until I get it up and paying for upgrades. I have been under the hood of a few smart lights in my day mainly martin. could not pay me to own a cx-10 we had 20 and always more than 5 broke it seemed. I came from a bigger set up and the owner loved martin. but that is a far dream to just get things off the ground. so in other words id like to know a good starting point what lights would suit my needs and if in my shoes where would you start?
