Ynot
A year or so back we bought some ideal booster cushions for the seating of small bums on seats for shows - these I found after speaking to the FoH guys at the Brum Hippodrome after a load-in one weekend as I'd seen what they had available there. Those were Boosterz and have served us quite well. However, time and use have inevitably taken their toll, (plus some scrote has pinched one!) and we thought we'd invest and stock up on some more. However, when we first purchased they were about £7 each... Their web site now quotes them as £32.39!!! A massive increase, and one we can't justify on the quantity I'm looking at (even if they had any in stock). So - the question is whether there are other suppliers out there that I can't find by Googling. All those I've found so far seem to be of a more domestic variety and maybe not suitable for theatre use. Our seats are approx 40x40cm and a 10cm lift is ideal. Any thoughts?Anyone got a reputable supplier??
cedd
A few local venues have these, which seem pretty indestructible. Also useful (though I suspect not a design feature) is that upside down they hold water, which was great when a little one announced he felt sick a few rows in front of me! A very quick thinking mum saved the day! They stack really neatly too. Can't comment on comfort for obvious reasons.... http://www.eurogroup.co.uk/euro-seating/Child-booster-seats/Child-Booster-Seats
Barney
They use something very similar at the theatres in Worthing and they seem quite robust. Indeed, I have to admit that I've actually used one myself for a short period, and they were actually reasonably comfortable. Better when you sat on your coat though. Ynot
Presumably you have discounted the cheaper(and in stock!) inflatable version, which they claim has been used in the West End, or is that the sponge version? We bought a half dozen of their inflatables at the same time as backups, but nobody likes those, so they just sat in a box in my office :(
Just Some Bloke
Whatever you do don't go for the plastic ones. They may be cheap and hard-wearing but they are certainly not comfortable. When we had a similar problem at a previous venue, we asked a lady who had done costume on a previous show if she could make some and she found they were pretty straight forward to do. Cost was a bout the same as buying them at the original price when we ordered about 20 at the same time. She just charged for materials and labour. timsabre
Whatever you do don't go for the plastic ones. They may be cheap and hard-wearing but they are certainly not comfortable. Our local theatre has the plastic ones cedd shows in post#2 and they are fairly comfortable. My kids have spend plenty of time sat on them and they don't hold back if anything needs complaining about...
Just Some Bloke
To be fair I have no children so don't know how they feel, but as an adult I sometimes use booster cushions to raise me up at the production desk so I can see over the working lights better and the plastic ones are no good for a full plotting session! We have plastic at the day job and we don't tend to get complaints about them, but then again they are free so you certainly couldn't ask for your money back!!
