nikkicallaghan
There is a free app called stage manager which will let you do a sound cue list but it can only play whats there no editing functions
Gerry
I downloaded it and had a play. All the functions seem to work except for the one to play SFX from a playlist. The app crashes when I try to the function. All I am really after is the ability to play music files, in a preset order, where it shows a list of the music and which one is currently playing. Also needs to stop at the end of each track until play is selected for the next track.CheersGerry
gyro_gearloose
Do you have to use an Android tablet? It seems to me that a secondhand iMac running the old version of QLab would be perfect for your needs, and wouldn't be that expensive.
beware
I think you can do it with winamp. You'd need to check.
TomHoward
Can you use a generic soundboard app? Would depend on whether they have a restriction on file length, but should just play once for every press. I wouldn't expect them to have any editing features or stop mid-way or anything though
Gerry
Answering my own question.VLC does exactly what I need. Thanks for all the replies.CheersGerry
revbobuk
Music Folder Player Free is also pretty good - and I like the way that you can just play from one folder. You need to select the 'musician' option to get it to pause at the end of each song. Starts playing very quickly when you tap on a title!
Biskit
Answering my own question.VLC does exactly what I need. Thanks for all the replies.CheersGerryThis is good timing for me as I've been pondering doing this for a while. I've had a look at the info and reviews for VLC but don't have my tablet with me to try it today - can anyone confirm if it it possible to play tracks consecutively without stopping, eg for pre-show music, as well as the stop-between-cues option for show use? Is it easy to swop between options like this? Also, the write-ups suggest it is possible to add files to playlists and find files by browsing the file/folders system, again a very desirable feature, but does it work well? Thanks,Ben

Gerry
Music folder Player free does exactly what I need on my cheepo Levono tablet. :) Thanks revbobuk. And to answer Biskit's question you can easily switch between continuous play, for your pre show music, and stop-between-cues option for show use (Use the musician option for this)CheersGerry
alistermorton
How do people find the latency on Android tablets in these sort of situations where instant response is a necessity? There are many articles on programmer/developer sites regarding the problem of indeterminate latency because of the design of Android and how to work around it (but supposedly it's not possible to completely eliminate it) which is different to how iOS works (supposed to be much better in terms of latency). I wondered if people found the latency a problem in real life Certainly I find my Android phone is unreliable in terms of responding to touch, sometimes reacting immediately, sometimes taking a second or so to react, occasionally longer. nikkicallaghan
I forgot all about music folder player. I tend to use fx live on iPad these days so forget what I've used on android. On the subject of letancy on android tablets so long as you close all background apps and ideally go into aeroplane mode it generally is fine for sound fx playback
