Biskit
Does anyone know of a company who drills/punches 19" rack panels to custom spec? I need a connector panel to bring the (presently rear-mounted) connections on an old mixer to a front panel. A standard pre-drilled panel won't work as I need 11 connectors evenly spaced across the panel (to line up with input and output channel strips on the mixer), while all standard panels have 12 or 16 D-size holes, so wouldn't line up. Also, some channels require holes for 2 x jack instead of one XLR. I could do this myself but it would be a lot of faff and I want it to be really neat and tidy. If nowhere does it I will take a blank panel to a local engineering firm to do, but thought I'd ask here first! Ben
Shez
I've done a panel before using the QMax punch for D sized connectors - not much faff and a very tidy finish.
Jivemaster
The correct Q-Max cutters cost money but make nice clean holes as well placed as you put them. www.bryant-unlimited.co.uk/ Certainly used to be a place to get panels custom cut, I haven't used them. Shez
I've used Schaeffer before for a complete panel with engraving and some quite intricate holes. Very good quality but not particularly cheap.
MarkPAman
[I tend to use QMax when making my own, but Step Drill Bits can give good results too. Plus they are very useful for when you need a more unusual size. It's all down to getting them marked up accurately & getting the pilot hole in the correct place to start with. TonyMitchell
We have used proaudioshop.co.uk in the past with pleasing results, Mark is very helpful and I'd highly recommend. It looks like their site is down at the moment and links to any ebay store. They made all our bespoke panels for UHF racks, d&b D12 racks amongst others. bruce
The last time I needed something like this done, I took a standard 1U blanking panel to a local sheet metal workshop - a place that fabricates stuff like ventilation ducting and commercial kitchen equipment - and they punched/machined some holes in it based on a sketch. It was a really hot day. The "fee" was 4 ice creams and 2 bottles of Irn Bru.
Chappie
ATP Projects (here), are a small, industry-focused company that may be able to help, especially if you want something quite bespoke.
