chatterbox Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 hI, I want to run a small basic light show - just generics - no moving stuff) from a minidisc. ie run the music from one side and maybe put a pulse or something on the other track that would send a signal to a small desk to change to the next pre programmed scene/chase. Anyone know a desk or controller that would work like that? Thanks,
Bryson Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Try the search above for "Timecode". What you'll need is either a desk that understand SMPTE timecode, or a SMPTE to Midi Trigger box and a desk that understands MIDI. Approximate budget? Buy or hire?
V.A. Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Not sure if this is quite what you're after, but you can program a Sirius to run a chase in time with music, so if you programmed each successive lighting state as a step in a chase, then ran an audio input with pips signalling when to change states, it should do it.
themadhippy Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 no need to program a long chase, just program the cue stack in the sirus as normal ,turn on clik track (or whatever its called )in super user, feed the apropiate tone into th audio in and away you go,every time the desk gets a tone it "presses"the go button for you.if you want to get realy posh use a revox or free head cassete player and you can still play back 2 channels of audio whith the click track in the middle
spantax Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 The Jands Vista can do what you ask for. Simply rip the audio track and convert it to mp3. Load it into the console and play it from there. The Vista lets you output the sound directly thru its sound card. SpantaxLampettGeneralen

But the OP mentions "a small basic light show - just generics - no moving stuff" - doesn't sound to me like the sort of production that would have a budget that could stretch to renting a Vista T2 ....

Missed out on that part! However, it would depend on when the project will take place. Maybe the PC version will be out by then.. SpantaxLampettGeneralen
robloxley Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Why do you need to do it this way, can you not just press go at the appropriate time points?
onecell Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 A couple of suggestions: Using any midi triggerable desk (most memory desks these days) and a basic PC:- Load the music track into an AUDIO track on a basic music sequencer- Add the Cue points to a MIDI track on the sequencer- Hit PLAY If this is too complex, the Pulsar Masterpiece allows you to record a sequence (up to 112) of cues in real time. So...- Program all the states you need into "Environments"- Set Masterpiece to "Record"- Play the minidisc- Activate the "Environments" as & when needed on cue.To replay just play the Environment chase and the Minidisc at the same time & go and 'ave a cuppa! I've used both solutions to great effect. Hope this helps - good luck!
J Pearce Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 Even simpler, if you can find one the strand mx responds to audio pulses and can be configured to change scene when it receives an audio pulse, for more goto the strand archive http://www.strandarchive.co.uk/ and look up the user manual for the strand mx console.

Thanks,<{POST_SNAPBACK}> As mentioned in another thread, the BlueLite X1 Show Controller has build in SMPTE support. <biased on>I think it is the best SMPTE support on the market today. But don't take my word for it.<biased off> With the BlueLite X1 you have 4 independent timelines (event lists) which you can run simultanious for timecoded shows. That's particular useful if you want overlapping fades on two (or more) event lists. You get 1,000,000 cues which you can reuse in any order and 10,000,000 events which you can very easily program using key assignments. Dan
edark Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 I use a PC based software called ShowMagic which can play audio (cd,wav, wma or mp3) through the sound card and also operate the lights. There are several versions available to suit your needs/budget. You can programme all your lights, press play on the sound cue, then press 'Go' for each lighting cue and Showmagic remembers the timings. You can go back and edit any of the timings of lighting cues at any time. Very easy to use and not very expensive for the basic version. You can run it off a laptop if you have one.I have used the software for several years now and have used it to do exactly what you have described.
Darkfold Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Why go to the expense of all that, just get a student, pay him/her/it £20 for the night (maybe less if you're doing a few repeats) and tell him/her/it when to press the 'go' button. Dirt cheap and almost reliable
oh lordy Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Hi there, Try vxco software for a computer laptop. Can down load for free and play about has a basic 3d world. then all you need is a reasnobally priced dongle from the likes of lightfactor. Oh Lordy
