Transcension Bar Settings

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have just taken on the job of lighting engineer for our local Am-Dram club, the previous engineer having left. As is usual in these circumstances no-one knows how to operate the equipment & the operating instructions have been 'lost' over time & I know practically nothing about stage lighting.

I have managed to download spec sheets & some some operating instructions (very obtuse) from the internet, but am struggling with one particular problem which is very frustrating to say the least.

Equipment consists of:

Juggler 88 12/24 channel lighting desk

2 x Transcension Pro Bar Dimmer Bar

8 x PAR 56 Cans (Filament type) used as spotlights

Witn everything powered up I connect up the cans one at a time into sockets/Channels 1,2 & 3 on the dimmer bar. They come on & I can control them from Pre-set Channel 1 on the desk (Perfect). However as soon as I plug in the last 2 cans into sockets/Channels 4 on the dimmer bar they come on at full brightness & won't dim. The other 6 cans become very dim but can still be adjusted by Channel 1 on the desk. When I power off & then power up again (after a cup of tea), I can't get the lights to work at all apart from the occasional fluke setting.

Can any one tell me how to programme the channels on the rear of the dimmer bar to get all 8 cans to respond to Channel 1 on the lighting desk?

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, then the instructions for this product should help;

I also seem to recall that there is 'hot' power outlet on those bars (i.e. powered all of the time) so make sure you've plugged your lanterns into the dimmer outlets.

I have two of these bars and from what you describe you may have a fault on the fourth dimmer. However you first need to eliminate the faders on the Juggler as the problem (faders can do this when the contact with the track becomes intermittent due to oil or dirt or just excessive wear). Use just one on the dimmer bars, plug it in and connect 4 cans and set its start address using the push buttons to 005. Take the master fader on the Juggler down to zero. Are all the cans out? If yes, using chanels 5 to 8 on the Juggler see if the cans fade up and down sensibly when the master fader is back up to 10. If they do it looks like a fault with fader 4 on the Juggler.

If no and the cans on channel 4 are stuck on, then the fault lies in the dimmer and is probably a Triac failure.

Hope this helps.
