Snarflehead
hi guys. I hope someone can help me. I bought 8 stair vile Par 64 cans off thomann (and they have dip switches) and the stairville led commander 16/2. I am using the set up for an amateur theatre production and want all 8 running independently. But I can't get the desk to talk to the par cans. Each one has 7 channels so I set the dip switches to 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, 36, 43, 50. But still not working. HELP!! :(
alistermorton
I remember someone else having the same problem a while back here and the problem is that the controleer expects the cans to occupy 8 channels so you have to set them to 1, 9, 17 etc.
jbrown96
Hi could you possible provide a bit more information (sorry if these questions sound obvious, just trying to work through potential problems to eliminate them for myself). Are the dip switches set correctly including the last 3 which should be set off to allow DMX control. Are the channels patched/assigned correctly on the desk. Having read a few review of this particular desk it appears as though it is not the most user friendly. Only other suggestion would be to work through the setup one fixture at a time to find the problem, potentially with another desk that is known to be working. Don Allen
If I have read the manual correctly, the factory default for the LED Commander 16/2 is ten channels. You could use the factory default and set your fixtures to 1, 11, 21, 31, 41, 51, 61, 71, 81 or using page 25 of the manual Setting the dimmer channel you can change the desk to a channel range of 8 using the SPEED sliders. Much more flexible than the first LED Commander, but much more work to set up. Thomann LED_Commander 16/2 manual.
alistermorton
Ah, yes, default 10 in this case, rather than 8 as was the case in the other thread. From the Thomann website, about this desk, a customer review states You need to set up all lamps as multiple of 10. So 1, 11, 21, 31, 41 etc
Jivemaster
Do you have a problem with "No response to DMX" or "unexpected response to DMX"? If the desk and just one lantern overlap even by one channel then something should work, If you have no response to DMX then it's not a channel selection problem it's likely a cable or device fault. Start with just one controller, one cable and one lantern. try a few single lanterns in case one has a dud receiver chip. Have you another DMX lantern? Can you find that on the controller - does it work?
