Carlsbro Alpha PM10

I have a Carlsbro Alpha PM10 active monitor. the Horn has blown on it, I have contacted Carlsbro to find out what would be a compatible replacement, they fobbed me off saying it was made by their old company and they have no info on the product. can anyone let me know which one would be suitable. I have seen the following, the dimensions are slightly different (which isn't a problem) will it be compatible?

PIEZO HORN TWEETER 7" x 3" - 150W - FLUSH EDGE AND LOW DISTORTION

150W

1.8kHz - 30kHz

Impedance 1kHz - 830 ohms

Thanks

A quick search for "PIEZO HORN TWEETER 7" x 3" - 150W" seems to bring up some promising leads...?

Some speakers have the piezo wired direct to the cone speaker, others use a resistor for some protection or even add in a capacitor as a simple high pass filter. If fitted, it's worth checking these are OK.

I wouldn't have a clue what to look for here!

You need to know what has failed then you need to find a replacement, sometimes it's by pictures, sometimes by measurements, sometimes you just have to take it to a proper repairers.

More pictures, is there anything like the ones you have?

Remember that these speaker drivers usually come out from the front and the piezo driver may have to be wriggled out of it's hole at an angle to get it's driver out through an off centre hole. Sometimes the HF horn and driver are separate and a new driver can be fitted to the horn, sometimes not.

Thanks. The wide dispersion Piezo horn and tweeter looks very similar. The dimensions are slightly smaller but I can sort that. Will it be compatible Ie wattage / impedance etc? (there is no spec on the old one anywhere) I have already removed the horn it came out front loaded, just disconnected the two wires.

if I could see a picture, I could be sure but I'm ALMOST certain these are brown/grey plastic piezo units with spade tabs on them, a bullet nose front and vents to the rear sides -

if so you will find ebay awash with them, they are around the £12 mark and sold as spares for qtx but fit carlsboro, thomann box and a whole host of others. IF they are you can be pretty sure of doing a visual match - they are one of those standard budget things that gets used in standard budget boxes - I only know because I have a couple of thomann budget boxes ina rehearsal room, needed a replacement, thomann said they no longer sold one (they do, they just don't know what's in their own old boxes and list under a different part number) so I took a punt on visually matching.

edited to add - the plastic horn screws on and off the piezo - unthread the horn and thread on the new piezo.

To be honest the only people who are going to be able to help with any accuracy if you have to fit original parts are these folks:

contact details for carlsbro

Or you can take a punt and get something else that'll most likely work but won't be exactly the same.

We're not dealing with a high-end precision piece of audio kit here and at the end of the day it's still going to sound practically the same whatever you throw in the hole. ;)

+1 I'd use any piezo that'll fit TBH, it'll sound a little different but you'll have a functioning box again.

The OP has already contacted Carlsbro noiseman who were 'unable' to help as it's dates back to a previous incarnation of the company.

Oops - Skimmed over the fact he'd contacted them

Quite ironic they can't help and they have no association with the "old" company when their website logo proclaims the heritage "since 1959" quite proudly...
