Judge
We need to put a couple of runs of track lighting into an arts center. We rather fancy the idea of short nose Birdies with barndoors fitted with LED GU10 type lamps. Or anything cool looking really. The main thing is that we don't want it to look like a branch of Top Man.A couple of hours of Google Fu reveals all manner of shiny stuff for retail outlets, but nothing really funky and theatrical looking. It does of course have to be very functional and light the artwork.Anyone else done this?
J Pearce
How is this theatre range from Mr Resistor? I've used similar before for a small studio where a grid would have been overkill.
Judge
Ah, good call. That looks good thanks. No sign of the actual track system there but will give them a call.Cheers
Glyn Edwards
I've done a shop fitting job where we "simply" screwed MR16 birdies to the ceiling and then used track connectors as "plugs". Sadly I can't remember the track we used, but it may be another option to consider. I guess it would depend on how fixed the fittings are, the last thing you want is swiss cheese ceilings. mar
If you want an alternative to birdies, you could look at the Source 4 Mini, that can be track mounted. http://www.etcconnect.com/Products/Lighting-Fixtures/Source-Four/Source-Four-CE-Mini/Features.aspx It's about as theatrical looking as you could possibly want. gyro_gearloose
Do keep in mind that LED GU10 lamps do get warm. We've got some track lighting at work with GU10 fittings which have a small mesh cover over the back of the lamp. They were originally fitted with some LEDs that were very much the cold/blue end of the 'white' LED spectrum. I replaced them some 4 Watt warm white LEDs and when I removed the old LEDs, they were almost too hot to handle. Some of the older LEDs had failed, and further investigation revealed that it was the electronics in the lamp that had died, not the LED itself. A case of too much heat? TomHoward
We have a setup in a drama studio where we have EUTRAC fittings that take a yoke and we put standard Par30s on them. The Par30s are cheap as chips and the fittings aren't much. I didn't find the Mr Resistor stuff at the time though so had I found it I may not have bothered. We have Par56s and some Quartet Profiles on it as well though in key corners as the fittings are pretty robust and even the Quartet is within the mechanical spec.
