High quality VHF microphones

Hi all,

I'm getting it very hard to find good quality VHF handheld mics. We have some MIPRO mics that have served us well but old age is starting to creep in.

I need to find replacments, diversity receivers with detachable aerials and a handheld mic with a straightforward on/off switch. Half rack receivers preferable but not essential.

If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful!!

Thanks,

Kevin.

Very few options! Micron do VHF still, but mostly beltpacks and I suspect unaffordable! Ebay supply of Trantec S3500s is very thin (although some come up) and the hand-held transmitter isn't vastly impressive (suffers from a plastic body, handling noise).

Do let us know if you find anything!

Oddly - I've still got some 3500 handhelds somewhere and the textured finish is wearing off, but they've survived rather well - and mine never had handling noise problems? They're the condenser versions, so not sure if the mounting is better than the dynamics?

I've only got the dynamic version, which seems to have a rubber mount for the capsule, but not enough mass in the plastic capsule for the rubber to do a lot. Glad to hear that the condensers are better, because they are otherwise a nice system!

ive still got a few micron tx503 VHF rigs that get a bit of use - must be 30 years old. The VHF kit can still be a good problem solver from time to time.

I'm still running a set of Trantec S.2's (S.1 metal-bodied dynamics), bought 2nd-hand about 20 years ago, which are invaluable in public halls or for open-air events, where there is a good chance of being surrounded by cheap'n'Chinese Ch.70 gear.

I also use S3500's from time to time, but I can't remember handling noise with the dynamics being a problem.

When I first looked at that, I wondered why you ever needed that many microphones.....

Very much on the off chance, it might be worth ringing Audio Ltd. on 01494 511711. They don't seem to have any VHF on their website but they used to be able to knock things up in VHF or UHF to customer order. They've like gone the way of others and phased out VHF--but if they can still do it their gear is excellent and tough as nails. The VHF lavs I bought in the mid 1980s are still going strong except for a few changes of mic capsule!
