Martin Roboscan 918s - Feedback errors

Got 10 of these units, still going strong... but a couple show a feedback error..

I'm more than happy to rip them open and investigate... Just wondering

Has anyone got any tips with these units,

or what to look out for??

Thanks

Mike

I refurbished a few 918s last year and had the same problem as you. The biggest culprit is the 6-pin loom that runs to the small PCB next to the colour wheel on the left hand side. Because each Hall sensor channel is used by two gobo or colour wheels, you end up with the situation where one faulty connection will cause multiple errors.

What happened with my lights is that the contacts in the Molex plugs would sometimes break, making it quite hard to spot which one was at fault. The best way to check the loom is to leave it connected to the motherboard and breakout PCBs and then meter out the PCB connectors rather than the cable itself.

Something else to check is wiring that runs close to the fans. There isn't much clearance in there and its very easy to have a wire rubbing against the fan, and the wire can eventually break. However the very first thing I would do is make sure you've got the lamp turned off, and then pop the top cover off and make sure all of the motors actually move.
