Roderick Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Looking at buying some LED cyc batten for the local community theatre.Would love some Chroma-Q Color Force but that may be outside the budget, approx A$800 (560 Euro / 400 GBP).Any other suggestions? The cyc / backwall is about 7 metres wide and 4 metres high.
BasMolenaar Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Hi Roderick, I love the Chroma-Q color force ( we bought them ourselves, 7 x color force 72 , lighting a cyc 14m wide 10m high ) but for your cyc it's overkill.Maybe the new ETC Lustr 2 series ( with the cyc head attached ), got a demo of them a few weeks ago and the're are real nice for the price, and I think it's nice for your cyc. I really liked the 7 individually colors ( although green wasn't very strong ) Greetings, BasThe Netherlands
Albatross Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Hi Roderick,After a lot of testing & comparing units we've just placed an order for the Chauvet Ovation units. We've previously covered our cyc lighting with 6 x Coda 4( 500watt) on our LX, and 6 on the floor for groundrow. Our Cyc is 11 metres wide by 5 metres high, and we'll have 6 hanging, 6 on the floor. The Chauvet units blew us all away with colour, brightness & creative possibilities.

Did you by any chance compare these against the Selecon PLCyc units?. I've got some of the Selecons in a venue I work in, and I'm thinking about putting them into another. I would be interested to know if you thought the Chauvets out performed them.
Roderick Posted May 12, 2015 Author Posted May 12, 2015 Thanks guys, I'll have a look at the suggestions and let you know how we go!

Ashley R Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Few options - Clearlight and now also showtech do a LED cyc batton, has 2 rows of LED's one with 15deg lenses, one with 30deg lenses, unfortunately not sure of the price point. - THe Chauvet ovation cyc units, Monash Uni's George Jenkins theater (if your familiar with melb at all) has got I think 5 of them lighting thier cyc quite nicely, Showtech now also does a version. - Basic Tri or Quad LED bars, Event Lighting would be local, and well priced, you may want to double up on the bars though to get good coverage, with some frost in the front of each fixture. But you do get the added bonus of individually controllable pixels! (all the rainbow chases!)
Roderick Posted May 14, 2015 Author Posted May 14, 2015 Thank you for all the serious suggestions. At the moment looking at the Event Lighting PixBar 8x12 which among other things fits the budget, always a bonus.Pix BarLet's see how we go!
alistermorton Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 How does it look in real life. The photographs on the web site make it look a bit "spotty" with pronounced hot spots.
