Sungmin Eric Kim Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Hello, Just wondering if anyone has any experience using shoulder mounted cameras We've been using prosumer Canon cameras for live video switching but I'm interested in buying something slightly bigger for the first time. The 3 I am considering are: Panasonic AG-AC8, JVC GY-HM70E and the Sony HXR-MC2500E Does anyone have any experience using shoulder mounted cameras or have any advice on what to look for and what to consider when buying our first shoulder mounted broadcast camera? Thanks
Dave m Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 What does your mixer need?I would assume that hd-SDI was pretty much a necessity To be honest those cameras are all fur coat and no knickers.A brief description ion of the type of work and environments would help. Do you run talkback?

Do you run talkback? We currently use a DataVideo HS which has a built in talkback / intercom. General use situations are lectures and concerts / festival events. I would prefer to use HDMI but we have a few Blackmagic HDMI SDI Converters so BNC isn't an issue if that would be the better option. Thanks
Dave m Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Both the Panasonic and Sony cameras listed are little more than (quite old?) domestic cameras in a bigger box to give th e illusion of a "professional" camera. To be perfectly honest, if you can use it to make money, it is professional but ideally you need full manual functions and the ability to get the cameras looking closeHdmi is limited to a certain length that used to be really short but is now longer. Hdsdi can go for a kilometre and is easy to make up/ cheap to buy
Peter F Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Hdmi is limited to a certain length that used to be really short but is now longer. Hdsdi can go for a kilometre and is easy to make up/ cheap to buy HD-SDI over copper will not go for a kilometre. If you can get it over 100m you are doing well. Cheers, Peter
empyfree Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 What's' wrong with the current cameras? What sort of budget do you have?If you can go SDI then do! Its awesome! Do you need to film "in camera" or are you purely shooting to mixer?
