shaggy555 Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I have abot £500 to spend on our small studio.... I would like to get some LED Pars, as an alternative to out generic tungsten units... I would like to get 8 or 10 units, could anyone recomend anything thet would fit the bill for around this budget?
paulears Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Are you looking for narrow stuff for beams or wide angles for washes.
shaggy555 Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 Are you looking for narrow stuff for beams or wide angles for washes. I'm guessing washes would be more usefull in this situation... I can always use generics nfor anything sharper.
mattlad564 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Another thing to consider when looking for these, depending on your desk, is whether they will be compatible with the desk you have I have had this problem myself, so know how much of the pain it is

Watch out for fan cooled led lights a few of them in a studio and you would soon get bothered by the fan noises, plenty of convection cooled led flat type panels available these days but if your looking for even 8 at £500 I doubt your looking at high end anyway
shaggy555 Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 anyone had any experience of these? http://cpc.farnell.com/ledj/slimline-7q5/par-can-led-7x-5w-quad-black/dp/DP33009

But have used that brand. I struggled with them as the ones I have didn't exist in the fixture library of the desk. But the brand is okay
paulears Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I put some of these into a job recently - they are bright, and seem pretty touch, plus they have DMX and mains in and out, which made life easier.thomann link
timsabre Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 anyone had any experience of these? http://cpc.farnell.c...lack/dp/DP33009 I have 8 of those LEDJ 7Q5. They are good fixtures for the price, fanless, but fairly narrow beam, probably about 25 degrees. They have IEC in and out so the power can be chained which makes temporary setup easier - I mostly use them on the floor for uplighting architectural features at events. I've had a shootout with a few LED cans recently and these were the best in a budget price rangehttp://www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_led_par_64_cx3_rgbw_18x8w_b.htm 45 degree beam with good even coverage and really bright. Possibly above your price range at £135 though.
Modge Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 We've had a lot of requests for personality's for the the eLumin8 fresnels, from people doing installs in schools and the like. Based on the manual reading this entails and conversations with customers these seem quite suitable for this sort of thing. 8 of them for £500 might be bit of a challenge though it has to be said.Prolight have them here There's a few fresnels if you look under elumin8. Second timsabre's view of the LEDJ cans as well: I use them in much the same way.
paulears Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 The nice thing is that the quality is getting better and better - plus light output is now pretty decent. I doubt you will not be happy with all the popular makes.
Gerry Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I'm using 4 Stairville Led Par 64 CX-3 RGBW 18x8w as mentioned in timsabre's post. These are the main lighting for a very small scale show in a restaurant that I am lighting tonight and tomorrow. The biggest problem with them is the horrible snap on or off at the bottom end of the dimmer curve.CheersGerry

Everything I have tried sub-£300 has this problem though, along with steppiness in the bottom few dimmer levels. If you are looking into the LEDs the snap/steps appear a lot worse than if you have it pointed at a stage. The Chauvet colorado range is the cheapest one I know of which has good dimming at the bottom.
alistermorton Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Running led tape on RC4 wireless dimmers with the led dimmer curve is pretty smooth and that's without using 16 bit resolution.
timsabre Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Yes as a fixture designer there are tricks you can play without going to 16 bit. But most cheaper LED pars don't. Also brighter LEDs naturally look more steppy than tape.
