paulears Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I thought it rather interesting that when the first Arri expensive LED kit for TV came out, one selling feature was the fact that a new light engine could be fitted to bring them up to date with technology advances, and a year later, you could upgrade them, wiping out 90% of your investment in the first year. That's worse depreciation than a computer! Are we reading too much into this idea of performance similarity? after all, a new discharge lamp vs an old one makes a big difference in everything, and we don't worry too much about it, do we?
Just Some Bloke Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Speaking as someone who has tried to light a cyc with 4 "identical" LED battens in which 3 out of 4 were the same and the fourth gave different colours (due to the LEDs coming from a different batch), I'm afraid it can be infuriating!

At least you have the option of relamping all the fixtures at once, which whilst expensive is cheaper and easier than replacing LED engines...
timsabre Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 The thing is, even if you relamp you often don't get them looking the same. Whereas with their LED calibration system you can make them look the same.
