Not yet but I believe job costings and a purchasing module is being developed as we speak from what I have read.

They have a brilliant "user voice" section where you can post ideas for development which everybody can see and vote on. Those with the highest votes gets a development priority amongst other updates and refinements.

Hiretrack NX keeps full track of your costs and even gives you pretty pictures (pie charts) to show the income, expendiutre and profit of a job now.

It's had these essential features, along with Pie Charts, for over 4 years now...

I've just spent the day with some other users in Frankfurt, and love the features that they add. One company have built a call sheet report - has all the details: hotels, crew, venue addresses, the trucking details, PDF CAD plans at the press of a report button.

Another feature that isn't massively talked about, and works in the German version, and a little work should see it in the English version is taking a vector works drawing, and importing all the symbols into the bill of items. So you draw the gig, import to EJ and all the kit is there and costed. About 5 mouse clicks...

And yes I'm a fan boy, but it forms a big chunk of every working day.

Sounds amazing -

Seeing as Current has only been out for 6 months and the amount of new (free) features that has been added since, I am sure it will be a pretty good and very up to date system in 4 years time!

Not forgetting the fact that I can access it anywhere - even while in bed in my hotel room (on Premire Inn's slow wifi) I can put together quotations and send invoices when I am away!

Plus your should your office/warehouse burn down and your IT systems go up in smoke your still in business....!

Too soon, Steve :-P

On topic: there is a product called Flex Rental Solutions which on paper appears to have a great feature set - you can use the software to connect together inquiries, quotes, pick notes, crew call sheets, purchase orders to suppliers and invoices to clients in one software suite. HOWEVER, the way in which the software is implemented can be very frustrating and slow (e.g. Edit-locking the entire database whenever you're changing one attribute on one line item), so if you want to try it then get the demo and test it extensively in a semi-live environment before shelling out any money.

we have been looking at the upgrate to NX for the last couple of years however we do record all PAT records on HT and are looking at new testers but hiretrack are only surporting a few testers so limits us on our pruchase. we have been asking for them to add new testers and even offered to pay but keep getting fobbed off with the time scale on this.

we curently run hire scan and eclipse and really want to be running NX but need the pat testing to be sorted before we can make the move.

1 thing im unsure on in the new system is the layout of the equipment book. as our hire manager I spend alot of time dealing with barcode issues and stock items but feel the new layout dosnt give me a clear view of how many owend and how many barcoded. unless im missing this.

We have recently added pat and rigging results into hiretrack nx. We upload data via CSV on a regular basis, using seaward software to download the testers. We don't let hiretrack decide what a pass is though...

We too have asked about getting new testers added. Seaward no longer allow remote control of their machines. I really want navigator to integrate directly with pat-4, but that requires the manufacturer to agree - and they appear un interested as they have another software integrator :-(

Feel free to give me a call if you want to chat, 01179727123. We have no big issues with barcodes. They are as good as the data we put in.

There is also a version for Mac's coming soon. We currently have a beta build in test - working well enough to use on live data!

Good luck

I know of one top-level company who use Flex Rental, and chose it after a very exhaustive search, ahead of anything else on the market. They got some tiny custom 2D barcodes made up which are great for things like mics and adaptors.

Because of their glowing recommendation, we looked into Flex ourselves, but were put off mainly by the cost. I suspect it's a solution for companies operating on a larger scale than we are. The limitations on editing etc. sound a bit silly and I could imagine being quite frustrating if you have a large, multi-site installation.

I still get the newsletters and it seems the product is being actively developed and improved. They've got a big enough installed base (paying monthly subscriptions) that should be a solid foundation for future progress.

First up, I'm in no way trying to sell on here - I've been lurking to get information, and a better understanding of the industry's needs.

I'd be interested to know approximately the size of your business, and what you would consider good value for money as our top level version is more than Flex! And as per the opening of my post, I absolutely promise I won't try and sell to you (kind of feel I'd be fighting a losing battle on the price front anyhow)!

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike, I think we did have a chat a few Plasa shows ago.

Flex Rental is minimum $270 per month. (One warehouse, unlimited operators). However I expect if we were implementing TrackingThis we would get by with one or two Pro+ subscriptions. Features-wise it would do all we needed to and the cost is significantly less. My only concern would be the max number of assets, we are a good way towards the 1500 limit with only mains items tracked at the moment. If we added things like audio cables we'd bust through that straight away.

At the moment we have four full time staff and an assortment of part time / casual folks. There's two people who would be using the system extensively, but everyone dips in from time to time. Spending £300/mo is well out of our ballpark, ~£60 would make more sense. We are currently using Xero for our accounts (having joyfully binned SAGE recently) and their offering of ~£25/mo suits us well and hits a sweet spot. I know that hire management is a much tighter niche and there's more development cost per user, but for the size we are it's hard to justify spending much.

We currently use a Filemaker-based solution that we wrote ourselves. (It's been gradually developed, added to, and occasionally rewritten from the ground up over the last 10+yrs). This definitely has limitations, but has been built around our quirks and preferences, so it's not easy to get rid of it. The crucial thing that it does give us is lots of flexibility - if I want to tweak any aspect of the system I can just jump in and do it. I wouldn't necessarily recommend anyone else goes down this route though. We started putting our solution together when there was very little in the way of affordable options on the market, and have invested hundreds of hours in it. If I had to start over again I'd build our procedures around one of the commercial packages.

Thanks for the reply Stuart - come and say hello at PLASA this year - pretty sure we will be there again.
