IanSm
Hi, does anyone know of any 8 way stageboxes similar to those made by VDC and Direct Cable Systems (Evolution), but somewhat cheaper? It's for an installation that won't get much use, and it will be screwed to a wall in a protected position. It doesn't need to be tour-grade and bomb-proof. I'm sure CPC used to sell Proel ones, but I don't think they have them any more. I'm just after an empty box with XLR cutouts, not a complete multicore. Thanks, Ian
MarkPAman
I've got a number of these from Studiospares or their close relatives around the place. Space inside is a bit tight on the 16 way version if you use individually jacketed pairs, but the 8s are fine.
TomHoward
CLD (and so Pro Audio Stash and others) sell a punched panel that fits a UK 2-gang socket; http://www.cld-dist.co.uk/product_images/_orig/7910.jpg They are a little on the compact side loaded with 8x XLR but I believe it will fit. Might be a struggle reaching the release tabs on the bottom two - you could always use two 4-ways. Panel is £4.30 plus I guess maybe a couple of quid for a metal back box? (Or 50p for a plastic one). Just checked and CPC stock them now - £6.77 though so you pay the premium for the 'free' delivery.http://cpc.farnell.com/penn-elcom/84511-8rc/8x-xlr-plate-2g-black/dp/AV10934
pstewart
CPC have the Penn Elcom 8 way unit Part No EN82555. The photo is generic, but that should be an 8 way box.
IanSm
Thanks, guys. The first two look a bit small but the third one might do. Does anyone know if it comes with the adaptor plate to fit a cable gland in the hole? No mention of this on CPC or Penn Elcom websites. Anyone used the ones from Audiospares - http://www.audiospares.com/product.php?productid=2817&cat=58&page=1 ? They appear to be made by Lynx - http://www.custom-lynx.co.uk

Just mount the top row upside down with the tabs facing away from the bottom row http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif
TomHoward
Never thought of that. We've got a lot of them around the place but they tend to be mutli-inputs so they are often only loaded with 2x XLR and then some phono, jack, etc so it isn't a problem but its a good idea. I think it does come with a gland plate, to reduce the size of the standard hole. I can try and have a look at the one I've got access to at the weekend. pstewart
The Penn Elcom box has a round hole, which is fat enough to take a gland for an 8 way multicore straight in, and also comes with a plate to reduce it down to about finger sized.
Rob_Beech
The Penn ones are very good, I use the 16 way versions for my remote boxes for on stage use. They do all come with an adapter plate to reduce the size (I don't use this as I use a multipin on the side of the box so they can be removed on risers etc). Inexpensive too! only negative point is they are a little bit deep. probably not an issue for you but it makes putting 6 or 7 in a case with the cabling quite bulky.
