henny
The x32 does have midi so you can stick the critical channels on some real fades for not many pennies
smalljoshua
Plus a wired Ethernet letting you have a permanently connected laptop for backup. Josh
pdherring
As much as I appreciate what everyone is saying about a headless mixer I will only use this desk where there is no other option. Of course I have desks worth a lot more than this for when I can. This desk is for a really specific purpose when I really don't have the space for either the LS9 or the GLD112. I really appreciate everyones input on this, I think the decision has been made and a x32 Rack will be being ordered. I guess I just wanted people to say that I wasn't crazy putting my faith in Berry again! :) Thanks Guys :D
adamburgess
Headless is great. Never had a problem yet close range wifi wise with the iPad but a little MIDI controller would be handy just incase. A light plastic Behringer MIDI thing won't add much cash or weight to the kit bag. Everything is doable from the front panel but channel hopping is a pain. Petrolhead
...Maybe I am not explaining my requirements properly but lets just say I am after a headless rack mount desk and the only two I have seen have been the Mackie and the Berry. Have you considered the iLive idr16 mixrack? It's a 3u headless rack with 16 in & 8 out with an option slot that can take a Dante card. There's an iPad app as well as Windows or OSX control software. There is also a optional small fader desk that connects via cat5 cable (not ethernet & not wifi, though).
pdherring
Petrolhead! Damn why didn't I think of that :( although it is a lot more money than the others.... That said its a product I know. Now need to try and justify that extra money in my head ;)
sam.spoons
The iLive system is great but at not that far off 4 x the price of the X32 Rack (without the Dante card) it'll take some serious justification.... Good luck with that http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif
TomHoward
If you're adding a Dante card to the Behringer you might even get away with an X32-Core? I can't picture what you're doing with the Dante in that situation. We use the X32 rack in the situation you're describing for open mic nights, that sort of thing. If you're mixing something more corporate I'd run the WIFI router out from the stage and close to your mix position as the biggest problem we get is WIFI drop-out with the iPad. pdherring
Yeah don't think I can come anywhere near close to justifying it Sam. Seeing as this is a desk for a specific set of situations where I can't use a proper desk. Yes the iLive would give extra value in some respects but nothing that I couldn't do with the x32 with a little work. As for the Dante card Tom, tbh I could make do without it being that it has multi channel from a laptop over usb, BUT the reason for me not going for the QU-Pac is because I know at some point I will want Dante on the desk and the QU-Pac doesn't have a slot or any option that A&H would ever do a future upgrade. Although at the moment I use G3 EW500 I have recently hired some ULX-D and realised the benefits of Dante more than I had before. If Sennheiser ever release a G series with Dante I know I will be purchasing some. Plus it give me the option to have the multitrack audio device not local to the desk/rack without playing about with usb extenders etc etc. So at the moment I do need the inputs the Rack would give me over the Core. I know I could go down the route of a Core and a S16 but that would add to the price for little benefit. I have really appreciated everyones input on this, I hadn't considered a midi controller but I think I will now, although I think I will wait for the new X-touch to be released rather than buying the older version. Alec
I hadn't considered a midi controller but I think I will now, although I think I will wait for the new X-touch to be released rather than buying the older version. Do we know a price yet for the X-touch? My biggest disappointment with that product is that it seems so DAW-oriented. I'm convinced that Behringer are missing a trick by not making it a little more X-32 oriented. Surely that'd sell like hotcakes to go alongside the Rack/Core. And even, potentially, with the full-sized X32 to act as an extension wing - that'd be sweet...

The X-Touch Compact has fewer but also lacks LCD scribble strips, a huge loss if you're working with several fader levels (potentially 10 levels on an X32 system). The faders on the BCF are horrible though so I will be waiting for the X-Touch with interest.
