gregog
Morning All, Wonder if you could help? Unforunately, fixture libraries have ruined my memory! I cant for the life of me remember how to patch a Strand 300 anymore with anything that isn't a standard 1:1 dimmer! I have 4 eLumen8 Tri Pixel battens to install, but wcan't remember how to patch them in. Please could someone give me a walk through, or tell me what to type? Strand have told me that: The best bet for this one is the 24 channel mode.' It would be patched as: (8) Generic RGB 3 Channel' But that might as well be in Latin! I will be plugging the DMX into the second universe on the CPU, so if someone could please save my life and tell me how to patch them, I would be eternally grateful - and maybe buy you a pint! I will patch them at address 200, on second universe. Thank you so much in advance, Gregog!
jonathanhill
I think it unlikely that a Strand 300 will have those lights in the fixture library. You have three options: Write your own fixture personality using the text editor on the Strand Use a generic personality type Or, use channels for attributes. eamon
I concur with Johnathan Hill re the 300 not having the fixture personalities. If you are going down the fixture route, the 5-channel mode would appear to be the best option. There is a 3 channel mode option but this gives you a bit more control. Even if you do not make a fixture of the units, the 5 channel mode would be easy to place on Submasters etc. From my reading the manual as per the below link, this would be the layout for the personality. elumen 8 tri pixel Elumen8 5 x Channel Mode Red 1 Green 2: Blue 3: Intensity 4 : Strobe 5: Strand 300 Fixture layout14: RED15: GREEN16: BLUE1: INTENSITY41: STROBE The Strand 300 fixture layout being the personality layout the desk will want to control the elumen8 battens in 5 channel mode. You are better off editing an already existing fixture in the fixture library with the above information. Leave the digits in place and edit the very left hand column to display the above column layout on the right. Remove any other information and leave only the five lines as above. Then rename the personality to match -leave the square brackets there. When you are in patch, type CHANNEL No. at DMX ADDRESS AT FIXTURE no.(3rd soft key)ENTER. If the above is still confusing it is probably easier to set the units to suitable addresses and program them onto your sub masters etc. Depending on the style of programming, it might be as easy. If it is just a gig, this is what I would normally do for ease etc. For a theatre show, the personality way would be better. gregog
Eamon, Thank you so much for this! This is exactly what I'm after! I knew the 300 wouldn't have an up to date fixture library for it, but so pleased that it seems (relatively) easy to update a previous fixture. Thanks ever so much for the info, massively helpful. Quite embarassed that I can't remember how to patch on it! I haven't used a 300 for about a decade! Long gone are the days of creating fixtures and playing around with atts!! Many thanks, again! eamon
Hi gregog Glad to help. I made an error with patch command and put the channel first. Should be DMX Address @ Chan NO @ FIXTURE no *. Best of luck with it. Eamon
gregog
I am slowly losing the will to live!! Please tell me what I am doing wrong! I cannot, for the life of me, get the unit to work! Powered seperately, running straight into the desk, tested cables so signal is definitely being sent. On unit, DMX address is 200, channel 5 mode. I have plugged the DMX into the second universe. I have adjusted a fixture in the library to the numbers highlighted above, ie R: 14, G: 15, B: 16 Int: 1, Strobe 41. This is now fixture 91. In patch, I type... 2.200 @ [patch] 51 [channel I want it to be on] @ fixture 91. Enter. The patch shows me that it is patched as thus: 2.200:9151.14Red 51.15 Green, 51.16 Blue, 51 (blank), 51.41 Strobe. I go back to live, select channel 51 on - nothing... Somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong and how to get light out of these units!!! Many, many thanks - hope somone can help before I pull my eyebrows out! Cheers in dvance, gregog
alistermorton
Have you given it some red, green and /or blue intensity too? Otherwise, perhaps it's trying to do bright black.
gregog
Black is my favourite shade... How would I select the intensity of the RGB? Is that something that needs to be written into the edited fixture syntax? Edited for addition... All I want to achieve, is to be able to put the three colours on three seperate subs to control their intensity! It seems technology has ruined my ability to do anything the proper way! alistermorton
Ummm ... it's a while since I've used the 300, but when we used to select say a Mac 550 which had multiple channels, they appeared on the second monitor, and you could then select which channel you were adjusting (e.g. pan, tilt, gobo etc) with the mouse buttons and trackball. Alternatively, patch them as 5 dimmers each and set the components and intensity that way (what we did with ledj battens when we couldn't be bothered to make a new fixture - each batten was patched as 9 dimmer channels for the 3 RGB sections of the batten). Kazeja
The fixture Library and ATCpage library are only read at power up as the desk goes into console mode. The unit needs to be reset/restarted to read any modifications that have been made to the libraries. K
eamon
Hi gregog Some other things to check... a) The port is set to the correct DMX universe. Hit REPORT, then Adv SETUP (soft key 5) and option to set ports is in one of the three set ups b) try placing a dimmer in to port 2 to ascertain you are correctly outputting DMX as above c) I may be reading this wrong but when you edit the Fixture 91, you should have 6 x columns of 0 (zero's) over five rows. The very left hand column is the point for the attribute no's. From the way you have said (and I may be wrong), it might be you have intrepreted my column layout too literally...? d) is it possible to post a pic of the fixture layout? If not you can eMa1/ to eamondofox (at) me (dot) (com). e) as was suggested the units may be in "reverse". i.e. It works being subtracting colours as opposed to adding colours. f) to directly access functions of the led unit, you can type channel no. Attribute no and control via the wheel. Eg. 200.14 "should" access the red channel providing all correctly patched. g) if you are giving up...Take one unit. Change the address to 1 & plug it into the 1st DMX port. Disconnect all other units and concentrate on getting this to work. By direct access of channels 1 thru 5, you should be able to figure out what makes the unit work correctly h) watch out for the DIMMER un patched RED button!!!! Hope this helps some and sorry if there is some granny sucks eggs moments in there! Eamon.
gregog
Morning All, So it seems the desk just hated me on Friday. Went back to it yesterday, opened it up, did exactly the same as I did on Friday and voile... It worked. Have absolutely no idea why all of a sudden it wanted to play.... but its working. Unfortunately, I can't do colour mixing. Its R, G or B... so if anyone has any suggestions as to how to mix it, that would be amazing. However, at this point, I'm just glad they turn on and work! Thank you all so much for your help,Steve
timsabre
I would do as Alister suggests and just patch it as 5 dimmers.
