Hi all

We've been looking at buying some of these for some special fx for our show but I was wondering if anyone could recommend another scanner as the Martin stuff (though very good) is a little more money than we have readily available?

Or maybe somewhere we can buy some second hand?

What sort of show is it and what sort of special effects do you want? Most of these types of scanners have got relatively noisy fans and even mirror movements could be too noisy for theatre. Not an issue for a booming rock gig of course. Are you looking to rent or bu (I know you mentioned buying secondhand)? And what's your budget?

It is a rock show, but not booming loud and a lot of next years gigs are theatres so somewhere in between I guess to answer your question.

Budget around £600 for 3 fixtures to buy.

Thanks.

£200 per unit should buy you something fairly decent secondhand nowadays. Would a 250w halogen as in the SCX600 be bright enough?

We think it should.

I'd try and get something LED based, because you will be forever having to replace the halogen lamps in these.

American DJ inno scan HP looks very good but they are over your budget at £350 each. However if you can find some ADJ X scans or X scan+ they were similar output to a 250W halogen.

would have thought you would have been able to pick up some 2nd hand SCX600's or 700's for 200 quid each.

The ADJ X Scans, I had a set of 4 of the original ones, which are now a good 5 years (or half a decade!!) old, and the cheap budget build LED drivers are deing on them, now down to 2 units.

But great for dj wicky wicky hires, not a bad output, nice and light and relatively compact. Just having some reliability issues...

I know this thread is a bit old but I have four SCX 700's you could have for £650-£700 looking to invest in some movers. Have been serviced and fitted with replacement belts where needed (will include bulbs). I could even throw in a spares unit for you for an extra £50 which includes an intact chassis, and all the internal pcb gubbins for easy repairs if needed. Mirrors are also in good nick with no cracks!
