henny Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Evening All I'm looking for something to do scheduled announcement playback for a public space, This is to replace an old DOS box that has curled up its toes and died. The system can be either dedicated hardware or PC based but it needs to be simple to update/edit with the ability to record built in. Remote control over LAN would be an advantage but not a deal breaker. Does anyone know of anything that might fit the bill, the two I have fount so far are below http://www.nch.com.au/bms/ http://www.technomad.com/products/schedulon/ cheers Ian
alangeering Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Do you need the unit itself to do the recording? If not then a raspberry pi can be set up to do what you want and will use very little power doing it. It can be set up to play any sound file on a USB stick. When you have a new announcement just swap in a new usb stick. Or if it has to be hidden then network it and upload new announcements over ethernet.
henny Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 Yep a raspberpi was on my list of options , and it wouldn't take much to do a web GUI for it , I was just looking for something more off the shelf
henny Posted October 19, 2014 Author Posted October 19, 2014 No idea what's wrong with the dos box I've not been to look at it yet I was just seeing what's out there if it can't be repaired , if it is dead I may pull the hardisk and see if I can make it run on a VM
