teknical
Hi anybody here local to Peterborough, UK that can repair Futurelight MH-660's? Has to be local to me and able to pick the unit up as I don't drive and only have a double flightcase which would require a pallet courier to ship it and would cost a bomb.I have one that the heat just goes up n up on and never stops. It gets to about 72 in 10 minutes from switch on then turns the bulbs off and displays FtEr message, which then changes to heat and the lamp restrikes after 5 minutes. I have just put a new phototransistor in it but the problem hasn't gone away. The unit has hardly got and dust in it so there's nothing blocking the airway. I haven't really got a clue about lighting repairs, I have enough knowledge to solder in a new phototransistor but thats about as far as it goes ** laughs out loud ** I bought the units 2 weeks ago from Swindon PA Hire who told me they were fully serviced with no problems, but this one blatantly has and they are ignoring my emails http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif Best RegardsJames
top-cat
I'm not being funny mate, I expect you've bought these with good faith and intent. But moving lights do need servicing, especially older units. I know people with old Mac250+ units who literally have to service them after every hire. If you don't have the facility to keep them going yourself, I would be of the opinion that these things are going to become a bit of a ballache for you. If you need to get them serviced by a lighting company every time there's a fault, plus collection and delivery, these are going to become very expensive fixtures! There are some great LED options on the market from Chinese brands which come with a warranty, you may have better luck there.
Ashley R
most of the time its either the lamp sensor or the heat sensor (both mounted on the same PCB), but other things can be the wiring going to the sensors, or in some cases that I have heard of one of the chips on the main PCB in the base. the replacement PCB is dirt cheap from Robe, and its a simple plug in replacement. Thats the great thing with old MH660's - One week they work beautifully, no errors, go out on a show, no issues. then a week or two later they come up with the all to common HEAT error. could also be that the fans are set to a lower speed, or the fan in the head is faulty and needs replacing. But realistically it kind of sounds like something, where you should try and ditch your losses, and go out and pick up some newer LED movers, say from your German friends at Thomann, with a 3 year warranty! norty303
I've got to echo Ashley really. With stuff like this available with long warranties, I'm not sure why anyone would buy MH, XT type profiles unless adding more to existing numbers or getting them for an absolute pittance (which usually means shagged) http://www.musicstore.de/en_EN/GBP/art-LIG0009547-000 I paid about that price for mine, and that was the trade price from Prolight! The bigger 5500 are a steal too now.

timmeh2
Hi I'm going to slightly stick up for Swindon PA here and say that if they worked when they sold them to you, then it's a fair one. You can soak test things all you like but if it's not showing any faults when being prepped for sale then you can't do much else. One thing that they're not going to do is pre-emptively change everything on a whim. If it was DOA then you might have had some room for argument. I've had it with 2nd/3rd hand movers where they've worked fine and then gone bang. It's just one of the things you have to accept when buying used, out-of-warranty kit. I only buy things that I know that I can fix myself. All the bestTimmeh
teknical
The fault doesn't bother me so much now as it only cost me 74p to fix it http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gifWhat does bother me is that they said they had just been serviced, new bulbs fitted recently and had 'very' low lamp hours. One bulb is that dim its barely visible and the other aint far off it, If you call 2894 hours and 1936 hours as very low on bulbs with a 2-3000 hour lifespan then so be it http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif but hey ho apart from the bulbs I'm very happy with them http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif
timmeh2
Hi Well in that case you would have had a case for not being sold in the state they said they were. Statutory rights as a purchaser give you a 14 day period in which to either find things up to scratch or not. Although I would say that most Blue Room members take a fairly dim view of publicly slagging-off a company, whether it be justified or not.
