paulears
The source I use in China for lights has just offered me some LED beam lights, which seem visually identical to the Chauvet bodies, but with the same base unit as the one's I've been buying. The yoke is slightly different, but the mouldings and switch panels are the same. As usual, the specs are a bit mangled. It's not clear if it's 60W or 75W like the Chauvet, as the spec says both! The only thing that seems missing is the frost filter the Chauvet has. Price wise, they're good value - so I might just buy a 4 unit package - which means they'll then let me have a free flight case. If there's a major flaw with the Chauvets, then I might not bother - but 4 degree beam angle and either 60 or 75W engine seems worth a look? JackP
We had looked at the intimidator spot 350's and demo'd 2 of them. We really liked them, they were very bright and seemed to work well for the time we had them... I know they aren't the beams, but I figure it's the same line. They didn't break while we had them, witch is a big accomplishment since we have had a lot of fixtures break on us, from a wide variety of manufacturers, the one thing I would say is that Chauvet sales people suck, none of them have been able to accomplish simple things like giving us an accurate estimated ship time for products that were not in stock, or not shipping items when they say they would be shipped (we have been waiting a couple months for them to ship some IR remote controls and they keep telling us it will ship "tomorrow"), they have also disregarded the ship to address on our purchase orders multiple times and just sent the shipments to our billing address. PurPleY11
Hi, I have used the intimidator a few times, its not a bad fixture but its by no stretch of the imagination a good fixture either.I think Chauvet products are great they are willing to make bonkers fixtures if you have the chance I would check out the new Chauvet rogue series. same sort of features but they seemed to have listened to concerns about build quality from the customers Ive put a few of my personal pros and cons about the fixture below, I hope they help Pros: Good output for sizeSome interesting gobosCheap to buy Cons: Its quite noisy while moving, shutter/strobingif not well maintained they can depreciate quicklyNo beam zoom
paulears
I'm a bit confused? I thought they had a silent strobe function as in they pulse the LED rather than have a mechanical shutter. My LED wash lights are silent, I assumed these LED beam lights used the same system. If they're clanking around, that will be bad news for the application I was considering.Cheers
norty303
I have used the intimidator a few times A lot of Chavet products carry the Intimidator name, which are you referring to? Paul, it could easily be a discharge fixture he's talking about, hence the clanking. In regard to your original post, be careful of Chinese looky likey fixtures, a lot of poor heads were produced a few years back that looked like the Showtec Indigo 4500, but were not the same (which might've been a good thing given the history with the light engine.. ;) )
paulears
The supplier I buy from are really decent people, and all the products I've had have been pretty reliable - hence why I'm interested in these as they share a common chassis that I'm happy with. What I usually do is buy interesting stuff that I can put into my own stock for my seasonal stuff, and then if they're really good, sell a few on. The wash lights have been very successful and I've sold quite a few of these now, with good reports back from my clients. I don't really know if I actually need beam lights because apart from, well, beams, they don't really do very much, and the narrow angle on the zoom washes is pretty beam like at shorter throws. My only real concern is that without haze, they're a bit pointless - and last summer season, over 50% of the visiting shows refused haze - for the usual reasons. Got a mirrorball you could point them at? That's the other obvious application.
