maxjones2000
I know there's already threads on this, but none are helping! After receiving my shiny new TitanOne dongle the other day, I thought it'd be fun to set up T1 with Capture Polar (student edition) to have a bit of a 'play' on a Sunday afternoon………my brain is now hurting.. I just can't get them to speak to each other over Artnet (on the same PC)… I've managed to easily to this in the past with MQ, but can't get anything with these two. Here's what I've got and done so far: -I've got a laptop running Win7 Ultimate with 2 monitors (one for T1, one for Capture)-I've made a stage on Capture (4 MAC 250's, all patched into universe A)-I've made a corresponding show file on T1, with a correct patch.-I've gone into System>DMX Settings, and assigned an artnet node onto Line 1 (universe 0), with the IP address 127.0.0.1 (is this the loopback thing??) -I've gone into capture, gone to Tools>Options>Connectivity, and set the Artnet bit to 'Automatic' (as 127.0.0.1 does not appear in the list) and rebooted Capture to make these changes.-Going to the Universe tab in Capture, nothing appears in the External universes tab………..I've tried turning off my firewall and this has not helped, and also installed the MS Loopback Adapter but this also hasn't seemed to do anything (although to be honest, I don't actually know what it's supposed to do…..haha..).Any ideas as to where I'm going wrong? My head is really starting to pound now! I've got Capture working seamlessly with MQ before, so I'm guessing it's an issue with T1… Thanks very much for your help!Max
smalljoshua
Since installing the Loopback adapter, have you tried to see if 127.0.0.1 has shown up in Capture? Josh
niclights
Loopback adapter is for when an application expects there to be an adapter (for example a network interface) and there isn't one. In this case the loopback adapter creates a 'virtual' adapter for the applications to see. If you are connected to any sort of router then you shouldn't need this. The most common thing that trips people up is where machines have more than one adapter. In Titan DMX Settings click on the button to the right of Art-Net under 'Available DMX Nodes' section. This will open the Art-Net DMX Module Properties dialog at the bottom right. What options are shown next to 'Network Adapter'?
maxjones2000
Thanks both of you for replying http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif Josh - no, 127.0.01 still isn't displayed in Capture… There's only 'Automatic'; 'Local Area Connection'; 'Local Area Connection 2'; and 'Wireless Network Connection' (all with the same IP addresses as below). Nic - There's 'Default Adapter'; 'Local Area Connection 169.254.57.10'; 'Wireless Network Connection 192.168.0.13'; and 'Local Area Connection 2 169.254.113.2'…. I noticed Local Area Connection 2 has only appeared since I installed the loopback adapter if that's any help. Thanks again, Aaargh bl00dy networking.. http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif
niclights
Try both of the local area connections. Also, for each, try setting the IP of the Art-Net node to 255.255.255.255 which is a broadcast address.
maxjones2000
:)! It only works! http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif Set it to Local Area Connection 2 with the IP 255.255.255.255 and it connected up straight away with no problems at all - Thanks Nic http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif Now to make it more complicated…….. If I wanted to run Capture on my MacBook Air (without an ethernet port) to make the most of the amazing graphics card, I'm guessing I could connect them over WiFi by selecting 'Wireless Network Connection' in both programs..? Or is it more complicated than that? CheersMax
niclights
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. It may make it easier if both connect via a router, even wirelessly. If, for some reason it won't work you could add some sort of adapter cable to get the wired ethernet.

Thanks again, Aaargh bl00dy networking.. http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif For future reference, if you see an address that starts 169.254. it almost certainly means that your PC has been set up to get an IP address from a DHCP server but it can't see one. This is a 'local link IPv4 address' or in Microsoft's terminology 'Automatic Private Internet Protocol Addressing'. Your wireless connection probably picked up its address (192.168.0.13) from a DHCP server running on the wireless router.
