Strand Nocture bulb holders

Ive got a pile of Strand 1KW Nocturne Floods - but seem to be burning through replacement bulb holders every six months or so. The terminal that touches the bulb just seems to corrode away.

Anyone else had this problem? I cant understand whats causing it - and how did you get round it?

Cheers

Yes, Nocturnes do arc very easily and this is what's causing the corrosion. You have to be extremely careful when putting in the lamps (or 'bulbs' if you prefer to use the wrong word) that they are sitting properly and making good contact. Otherwise, make sure that when you put the lamp holders in they are sitting correctly too, as if they end up slightly too far away (or on the wrong angle) the same thing will happen.

I would also suggest that if you've had to replace the lampholder, you should also replace the lamp (or at least clean any burning off the lamp terminals with fine sandpaper), otherwise it will just cause arcing in the newly replaced lampholder.

I would also check the cable connections in the plug and inside the fixture to ensure the terminals are tight.
