LeapFrog 96 o/s upgrade.

Hiya.

Ok, so I have the 'proper' Zero88 USB stick. Ive downloaded and extracted/un zipped the new o/s version and transferred it onto the stick. popped it into the desk, hit 'upload software' and....

Nothing. It dosent even see the file on the stick although it says 92% free...

Any ideas ? Do I need to format the stick first perhaps and if so - how do I do that?

Cheers

You should just insert the USB stick with the desk powered off then power the desk on - the internal bootstrap checks for the presence of a stick with a bootable image and if it's there boots that.

The upgrade also needs to be installed on the USB for maximum reliability rather than just extracted/copied on to the stick, the install can then create the best layout on the stick for the upgrade installer to run quickly.

And one thing I was told by Zero 88 support when I had problems on an earlier update: use the 'nearest' USB socket to the power supply. Don't ask me how, but they assured me it can make a difference.

My understanding is that it runs direct off the IO chip on the mainboard whereas all the other USB ports run through an onboard USB hub which can be "mardy" under certain conditions and cause the upgrade to hiccup/fail.

Hi Dominic,

Have you read through the instructions on the release notes? It sounds like you are extracting the file and then dragging it onto the USB stick, whereas you actually need to run the .exe on your PC, which will then format the USB stick and install the software onto it.

You need to be an administrator of the PC to do this.

We suggest using the USb port next to the network socket, as this is directly on the board, rather than going through a hub, but in reality, I always use the one on the front panel.

If none of this works, it's also worth checking this:

Im now going to get - said administrator to install on the stick, as per.

Hopefully be fine after that.

Job done.
