Pulsar ChromaPanel Hire

OK Thanks everyone, I have sent off some emails and hopefully I will receive some replies on Tuesday when everyone returns from the Easter Break.

Another question regarding ChromaPanels; How are they attached to the floor or surface?? My idea is to attach ChromaPanels to some steeldeck and use that as a sort of ChromaDeck equivalent because panels are easier to get hold of and cheaper afaik and also you can put legs on steeldeck to elevate up a bit. Do you think this is possible and a good idea??

In chromadeck they are surrounded by aluminium extrusion cleverly making them into 2ft squares. To fix them to a surface they have m6 (I think) enabling you to fix them to a frame, or fit an eyebolt to hang.

If you are going to do 'homemade' chroma deck beware that you will need to take the corners that hold the fronts on off to make them but together nicely, then you have the problem of the legs.....

If you want chromadeck at height then you need to sit it on litedeck of a slightly lesser height for it to be flush with the rest of your stage.

having done 2 shows where production wouldn't pay for chromadeck I can safely tell you that the aggro of doing it your self isn't worth the pittance you save doing it!

I used to work for Litestructures and was always using ChromaPanels and Decks

The panels have holes in the back for fixing in the vertical you CANNOT stand on them

If you are putting them on a steel deck then I would strongly suggest you use ChromaDecks - they are chroma panels enclosed in an aluminum frame with a perspex top you can walk/dance/jump on. They are 610mm square and are designed to sit on steeldeck/LiteDeck.

They have adjustable feet for leveling and can bolt together. A row of 12 is about the max for handling, we tended to put webbing straps around the outside if used as a dancefloor to stop it. moving.

As an aside remember that each chromazone controller operates upto 12 units so it's important to figure out your pattens and layout otherwise you can end up in trouble.

Fast chases (say on an 8 x8 square going from the centre out ) can get out of sync as DMX can't keep up

IF I can be of any further assistance let me know

I didn't realise you couldn't stand on ChromaPanels- I swear I saw somewhere that they were fine to be stood on- never mind!! So that sort of throws my idea out of the window!

So when you say each chromazone controller operates up to 12 units, do you even need these controllers if you are controlling them via DMX?? I really don't want to go down a seperate controller route on this sort of show!

Also can you remember roughly how much a pannel was and roughly how much a deck was??

OK- Right so its like a Scroller PSU!

Can you give each panel a DMX and control them Individually like that?? Guessing not from what I have heard so far.

Another product I am looking at, at the moment which is very similar is the 'MultiLeds'. These were the people with the very impressive stand which was like a box of these things up on the top deck at PLASA '04. I can't seem to find anyone who hires them and there isn't much helpful info on there website either so any help would be gratefully received. Anyone know of any products similar to these two??

Thanks,

Sam

Chroma zones use up to 46 channels dependent on mode but have inbuilt chases (the first 10 channels are for inbuilt patterns and dimming the following 36 are RYB on each deck.

As I recall the Chroma Decks are £40 each but discounts can be done LiteStructures had 150 at last count

Richard Martin has a ton of panels but is reluctant to hire outside the TV industry

you could use something like ClearDeck from lite structures whic has a clear perspex top on it which you can stand on and light it from beneath whith led battens or panels of your choosing. or if budget wont stretch to leds, you could use some gelled floods or pars and with some frost and colour mix the old fashioned way.
