CARWYN
Hi We have a new tv to put up in our foyer for advertising and have been told by a mate to use a rsperry pi to sort the content out and was wondering is there any free software out there to manage the content Thank YouCarwyn
mac.calder
If all you are after is to slideshow images, look at using a TV which will play from a usb key. Then it is really easy - number all of your images dump them on a key and plug it in.
CARWYN
I'm also after playing videos on it too. I have been told there's freeware software out there that will manage the content that will also manage the content so that when the date of the event is passed the event will be stopped advetising

J Pearce
I set up a foyer system at my last place using Xibo. Once you've got past the learning curve you can do some quite fancy stuff, and if you embed stuff from other cloud sources (google calendar etc) you can avoid having to dive into the admin interface everyday just to change the What's On list. neilalexrose
I've currently got 2 raspberry pi's running Screenly Open source edition. Quite a simple program that will display images, video's & some web pages. The interface is quite simple, and it means that we can let the marketing department update content across the network. The same company does a 'pro' version which seems to use cloud storage, but I haven't looked into this much, as we only need a simple, free media player. moonkey
Brightsign signage players are reasonably priced, have loads of timeline features and an RTC. More expensive but less fiddly than a Pi, and rock solid. I've used them with Arduinos to do various things with buttons and DMX.
CJ0206
I recommend http://www.digitalsignage.com/ you can manage multiple screens from one place, all you need is a basic internet enabled computer attached to the screen. PSIt's free and can be used standalone and on Smart Televisions
Dave m
we have some samsungs that are designed as display units. They can be set to come on over a set period in 24 hrs (but cannot miss a day) and run a show which can be a video/powerpoint etc.The only issue is that although you can make the PP on a mac, you need to save it on a PC or it won't work! it was cheaper to have several and not bother connecting them all up to manage online.
