spotblaster Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I have an Arri Reflexion 512 channel 60 memory DMX backup unit to repair - the symptom is memory loss. It will operate correctly when mains powered but will forget all stored states when switched off. I opened it up expecting to see the usual 3.6v pcb mounted battery but can see nothing on either pcb that looks anything like a battery! An internet trawl for the service manual for this and the identical ETC Reflection produces only the operators guide. Can anyone help? Thank you in anticipation. Spotblaster
Brian Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 If there's no battery then it could be a 'Supercap' ie a high value capacitor of several Farads or there were memory chip with built-in batteries. You can identify those by them being much thicker than a usual chip; look for a 24 or 28-pin chip 6mm or thicker. Maybe post a photo of the PCB?
DrV Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 IIRC it's a 28 pin battery SRAM on the middle of the board. It's on a socket. My pic of the PCB is not clear enough to identify part numbers but that's where to look. Just had a look at the manual and it confirms "battery backed up SRAM" Dave
spotblaster Posted May 14, 2013 Author Posted May 14, 2013 Thanks for the pointers. The SRAM is a Hyundai HY62256ALP-10 9245B. It sits in a Dallas ds1213 smart socket which is why it appears to be a large chip. Hopefully replacing the HY62256ALP will sort the problem as the ds1213 is soldered in. Thank you for your help. Brian Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Hopefully replacing the HY62256ALP will sort the problem as the ds1213 is soldered in.Save your time; the 1213 contains the battery and is likely to be your problem. [E2A]May be a solution as the DS1213 is obsolete.

Desoldering is not a big deal if you've got the appropriate gear. Where are you?Dave

spotblaster Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 As a postcript. I have successfully sourced (from China via E-bay) and fitted a new DS1213 and now have a fully functioning Arri Reflexion. Many thanks to all who have pointed me in the right direction on this. Spotblaster
Roderick Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Could this condition be described as DeMeXentia? Hat, coat - gone!
