peterdevon Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 We are back to the carnival float again, the remit is they want a rack mounted audio player to repeatedly play two tracks that can be operated by a blind monkey, ie press one button. MP3 players are out as they are too small and they can't see the displays. Oh and of course the budget is small! Thanks

Thanks You dont say what you budget is but I have a couple of American DJ Media Operators and they are very good for the price, around £130 and will do exactly what you want.
pete10uk Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 If you had £300+vat I would get a 1u rack shelf, a audio media player with external button interface, 2 big fruit machine buttons labeled start and stop and an hour or so on the work bench. Can't get easier than that to operate, however requires a bit of work to make it rack mounted and it will look as if you just made it unless your careful.
Owain Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 About £100 will get you a Telephone Music on Hold MP3 player. No buttons :-) No displays :-) http://www.discountcomms.co.uk/acatalog/MP3_Music_on_Hold_Players.html Do they need the ability to switch between tracks or start tracks to cue? If yes to the former, two cheapy MP3 players and a toggle switch on the audio outputs (player 1 - centre off - player 2).
Boltonguy Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 If your budget is small then I would suggest 1. Borrow someone's smart phone2. Buy a second hand mini disc player if you definitely have to have something racked 3. Borrow someone's laptop/note book/tablet It seems a waste of money buying something fora one off carnival event
bigclive Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 You can get trashy modules like this:- ebay trashy MP3 module. I've got a simpler one with a small amplifier built in. I got it from Dealextreme before they managed to alienate me with their random 2 month delivery time! The one I got starts in its last mode, so as soon as it's powered it will begin playing music from a flash card or USB stick. I think this is the one I bought:- DX module.
peterdevon Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 Looks like the "American DJ Media Operators" will do the job and it's in budget. The minidisc player would also do but I cant find a cheap rack mount one. Thanks guys!
