paulears Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 This link takes you to something circulating on Facebook, they have 4500 pairs of opened and unsealed headphones to give away. Oddly, Her Majesties Revenue and Customs have been seizing lots of these over the past few months as counterfeit. The cynic in me wonders if perhaps these headphones were perhaps genuine, not counterfeit, but imported illegally without their permission - so they have a warehouse of opened, tested and perfectly performing headphones that have been confiscated by customs. I hope I'm wrong - but I really cannot see why they'd have 4500 opened headphones - because at the retail price, that's a huge amount of investment. I wonder ..................
DeepSpacePenguin Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 It's not the official FB page though is it...
ImagineerTom Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 If you believe that's a real page and a real offer I've got some Tartan Paint and a Bridge I'd be able to sell you for a good price.....
ddproduction Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 There's an unofficial Apple page doing exactly the same thing with 'unsealed' Mac Minis.
Simon Lewis Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 This page (and the ones claiming that thousands of unsealed Apple products have to be given away) are simply hoaxes trying to generate advertising views. See here.Furthermore, the only beats you need are these... ;-) http://media.dcentertainment.com/sites/default/files/files/2012/02/MAD-Magazine-Beets-by-Dre.jpg
Peter F Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 For the benefit of the gullible... These too good to be true pages are a method of collecting Facebook contacts. Get a few thousand then sell your page on as a type of mailing list. It's a sort of dishonest way of collecting data for marketing. Of course, as any rational person would be aware, Facebook itself is a massively powerful effort in collecting information for marketing. Cheers,Peter
dbuckley Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Just like this one: http://davidbuckley.name/pix/dodgy_sales_on_fb.jpg
alistermorton Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 There's an unofficial Apple page doing exactly the same thing with 'unsealed' Mac Minis. Also there are pages, probably using the same template, offering unsealed iPhone 5 phones and various sizes of iPad.
GaryNattrass Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Do these Dr Dre cans actually sound any good? It strikes me that you are getting a £50 set of cans with a £50 donation to his pension pot? Give me some sony 7506 or sennheiser HD25's any day!
DrummerJonny Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Do these Dr Dre cans actually sound any good? It strikes me that you are getting a £50 set of cans with a £50 donation to his pension pot? Give me some sony 7506 or sennheiser HD25's any day! I did a quick A/B Comparison with the demo models in Currys a little while back. While none of them were particularly bad cans, My own HD25's seemed a lot "tighter", and more consistent. Some of the Dre cans have a very floppy low end, Especially compared to the HD25's which can sometimes be lacking.
whisky-zulu Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Have to agree with DrummerJonny - I did an A/B comparison in John Lewis' a few months ago with some Dr Dres and the Sennheiser HD555s (given all the "cool kids" seem to buy Dr Dre's these days I was curious to see what the "hype" was about). The Dre's were tinny and lacked low end definition in comparison to the Sennheisers and I don't think my ears have forgiven me yet! It just seemed that instead of getting music out of the Dre's you might as well play a pink noise generator through them and I doubt anyone not in the industry would notice.
the kid Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 The comments about lack of low end seems to be odd given that the gentleman in question seems to approve highly of the bass.
DrummerJonny Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 It's not there's a lack of low end, there's plenty of that. More than my HD25's. The problem is that what is there is very muddy, and obscures a noticeable amount of mid/highs. Great if you're listening to floor-shaking dubstep with massive basslines, but lacking for anything where you want a little bit of definition and clarity. I hate talking subjectively about sound, I always end up using a ridiculous amount of weird adjectives.
i_hate_fisicks Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I tried a pair of Dr Dres in a shop somewhere, and even with the fairly light music that I tend to prefer there was massive exaggerated bass. I thought they were rubbish. This does tend to be a trend with headphones though. I can't imagine what it would be like if you were listening to music that had a lot of bass in it originally!
Alec Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 And, I believe, the other problem with them is that the plastic headband is weak and breaks relatively easily. Happened to my son's pair (that I found overbearing at the bottom end) and a bit of googling indicates that it's an entirely common occurrence. Looking at them, I'd say it's a design fault. Certainly wouldn't recommend them at all.
