paulcobb Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 I'm looking for a low cost demux for control of analogue dimmers (10v) from a DMX lighting board.18 or 24 ways in total but maybe doubling -up a smaller unit. Thanks, Paul
gordontech Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Much the same in my experience. Purchased a showtec one for a local village hall that had easy instructions and came with 10v cables. It wasn't more then about £150 if my memory serves me rightly.
Robin Pratt Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 All of the ones I've seen recently, e.g. the Strand S72, Botex ME72 & Showtec Multi-exchanger use the same PCB inside, presumably all from the same production line....
Andrew Edwards Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I have several Showtec 72s and they have been fine. One has lost a couple of segments on the display but still does the job. The adapter cables have jumped up in price recently. I bought a set of three for £60 a number of years ago. They appear to be now about £60 for just one. Unless you are a soldering Jedi and can make your own...I'm not.
PaulDF Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I think the elation demux from CPC is another variant of the showtec/Botex one.I have both the elation and the showtec variants and have had no major issues.
themadhippy Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Unless you are a soldering Jedi and can make your own...I'm not. just buy a fully wired 25 pin extenstion,if they still exist or has usb printers wiped em out?,cut it in half and add suitble connectors
mark_s Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I have one of the Botex units on a show at the minute, and it seems to be doing just fine (in a fairly demanding environment too). The only downside is that making up 3x DB25-Soca adaptors so very nearly drove me to suicide...
willp Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I bought the Showtec Multi Exchanger from 10 out of 10 (http://www.10outof10.co.uk/acatalog/Control.html) when our Zero88 unit died. They also do the 25pin D-Sub to DIN cables but as these were £60 I decided to build my own. This is quite easily done if you're handy with a soldering iron, bought some female DIN connections with pre-soldered tails from eBay quite cheaply along with the D-sub connectors.
Paul J Need Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Thanks for the plug Willp. A lot of the DMUX units available at the moment seen to be built in the same factory including the Showtec/Strand/Botex/Trancension etc etc .
