hi all

I have got a problem I have a w audio ep1300 450 rms @ 8ohms per-chan and running two ev sb121 subs 300 rms @ 8 ohms and the limit led keeps on coming on even at low volumes I have the gain control up full and have tried it at multiple points

any ideas?

Does it do the same only running one speaker, with the other disconnected? Apart from a real fault, the only thing that strikes me as possible is that you're accidentally running full band audio into the amp rather than band passed, and as you can't hear it through the subs, you are really overdriving - and just don't know it.

Your audio signal is a mix of high and low frequencies. The highs should get fed only to the amplifier(s) for the tops and the lows only to the subs. Separating them is the job of the crossover. If you feed high frequencies into a sub the speakers will not be able to move fast enough to make sounds but the watts have to go somewhere so they get turned into heat... in your speaker - which is a 'bad thing'. Paul is suggesting that this is happening. You should check how you are separating the highs and lows

My thought would be: something is oscillating at a higher than audible frequency; either your ultradrive or the amp itself. But you would need an oscilloscope to determine that.

Maybe something you could check without instruments:

Connect the amp directly to your mixer and run an unfiltered music signal through it into full band speakers. What does it do then?

Good luck

I have had the amp tested an it only delivers 330 watts rms @ 8ohms instead of the 450 it claims.

But thanks for your suggestions.

I'm not sure but its sorted now got limiters set on the ultradrive set to -21.1db so the amp wont clip

thanks.
