DJUnreal
Hi all, I have here a vinyl deck with a proprietory plug on it for power, which came from a stackable hi-fi unit. This is all well and good, apart from the fact that I wish to run it separately. There is an obvious solution to this problem: solder my own plug on instead and make a bridge lead in case it ever gets used with the hi-fi again. Only a couple of problems. 1) I don't know what current or voltage to provide it with in order to make it work, and cannot get to the back of the hi-fi any more to stick a multimeter in there and find out. 2) There are no manuals available for the vinyl deck, or it's accompanying hi-fi, on google, or on sony's site. The model number of the vinyl deck is: PS-LX56P The power looks like a low voltage connection (minimally thicker than bell wire) and appears to be DC from the fact that there are only two wires (although this is never guaranteed, eg those 13amp mains plugs which don't have an earth lead in them, but just have a non-connected pin and two connected live & neutral pins). So, the question is: Anyone know what voltage/current I should supply the deck with, or indeed a way to find out without getting anywhere near the back of the amp which it was originally plugged into? Thanks Very Much Best Regards DJ Unreal
Jivemaster
The cartridge and arm are unlikely to be up to standard - could easily be a piezo cartridge needing a high impedance pre-amp. Try for a stand alone deck and good cart and arm.

Was just wondering about the general idea for voltage and current... as I said, the connector looks low voltage as does the cable... I have a hunch that it's about 12v but I'm not 100% sure... The mixer I'm plugging it into has phono and line so it'll work with one of those... Best Regards DJ Unreal
Ekij
If you take the desk apart you should have a fairly good idea what voltage is expected from the components inside. If you are unable or unwilling to do this then 12V d.c. would be my first guess, but it is a guess! You'll be less likely to do damage starting at a low voltage and working up than starting high and working down.
