eLumen8 Range of LED Fixtures

So I popped into one the the local hire companies the other day and was shown two fixtures from eLumen8, one was a RGB Par [eLumen8 Stage ParTri ] and the other was a LED bar [ eLumen8 Tri Pixel Batten ]

I had a really quick play, like five minutes with each, but not with a DMX controller.

They both felt like substantial pieces of kit, the Par really caught me by surprise with the weight of it. They both had powercon inputs and at least the bar had out too. [ Don't hold me to that]

I was wondering if anyone has used them?

Links to one of the only places I could find them online;

I've had the batten to play with and demo to some customers - it impressed me. The field looks wide enough and even enough over a short throw to light a cyclorama with, whilst the unit is compact enough to hang just about anywhere. The litte theatre I light for is seriously considering buying four for cyc lighting and "event" lighting in the auditorium - they're tight on available power in both locations so the batten fits the bill as it draws about 280W in total (the price is very good value for money too).

I've had a shorter play with the PAR version but we had one for our workshop day last month and it was lighting the cyclorama at Solihull Library Theatre from about 12-15 feet and appeared to be giving useful intensity (and "broad" even field), so an array of them on a bar might well solve some problems for colour wash rigs too.

I've just checked and we have the batten and the warm white Alu PAR in our online shop and from memory stock is good for both until the end of May (unless they're really popular and sell well). It's my understanding from talking to Andy at ProLight (the UK distributors) that there are several hire companies looking at the batten too.

I've been shown HighLite's version of the Chauvet Ovation Profile this morning as well (the LED version of a well known tungsten profile) and that still impresses me (but then I grew up with Patt 23's :P) and the price for that (whilst a shade over £1100) is good value for money I think. It probably works better financially in locations that are tricky to access easily i.e. in permanent installs and I suspect that the price needs to come down by about £200-£300 for theatres to take the technology onboard but we're getting there.

We've got several of the LED banks - they have the same cells as the battens, but in a 4x4 square format rather than a row of 8.

I really like the "form factor", far better for lighting small stages than bars of four. They have an 80 deg beam angle which I find quite useful. With bars of 4 x ~30 deg LED pars, it took careful focussing to avoid leaving spots of shadow on stage. (Which the talent, naturally, would gravitate to). With these, it takes much less effort. Output-wise they are roughly equivalent to three 36x8w quad fixtures from the same manufacturer.

As "face light" they're not desperately natural looking, but for the shows we've used them for it hasn't been a problem.

We were apparently the first people in the country to take delivery of them. A slight issue with the PCBs very quickly and efficiently, and I've been more than happy enough with the build quality.

Full disclosure - we're dealers for eLumen8 amongst others.

Just a bump to this thread.

I'm looking for an LED replacement for some 500w tungsten fixtures, and the elumen8 unit keeps coming up on searches as priced well below other makes.

Does anyone have any of these units and are they any good for the price?

I'll be using them just as they are without colour, so I don't need full colour mixing, and they'll be on for 6 hours per day, so my list of features required is quite small, hence not needing to look at the likes of ETC which is priced much higher.

thoughts welcome. - Dicky
