Lightworld530 Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 HiI am in need of a monitor of the type that used to be used with the Strand Gemini desks. One that has R G B and composite sync inputs. They were usually on 4 bnc connectors. It is for a strand impact desk. does any one know where to get one? I would be happy to get a second hand one from a computer supplier. If anyone knows a specific brand / model that would suit the purpose I would appreciate the information.Regards David Marsden
AlanB Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Hi David. Whilst not exactly the "ideal" solution, as a Gemini owner myself (although about to get rid of it) I got around this problem by building a "box" that had a RGBS to SVideo Converter and then a SVideo to VGA converter in it. The VGA was then fed to a standard CRT VGA monitor. The thing to watch is that some makes of VGA converter don't work with more "modern" LCD style monitors due to the line frequency. Also you might need a monitor that has variable parameters to view the first and last characters on each line. If you want more details of my "box" or would be interested in using it, please PM me. Alan.
kaareolai Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I am in need of a monitor of the type that used to be used with the Strand Gemini desks. One that has R G B and composite sync inputs. They were usually on 4 bnc connectors. I did some diy with RGB monitors for similar purpose years ago (read: a RGB monitor lighting desk and not at least Atari 520/1040ST computer). My head is arching trying to think about this, it is so long ago... Any common, at least older crt monitor, with SCART should have the possibility to use RGB input.See examplewise: http://www.leadsdirect.co.uk/technical/scartwiring.html (no other thoughts implied other than for the diagrams and pictures.)So if you have DIY mind, simply make a connector from either desk connector, or from already made BNCs to SCART. Pin 15,16,7,16, one of the grounds. If 8 is high, monitor will usually autoselect input from this SCART. Audio is also available if monitor has speakers. I also vaguely think I remember a possibility to connect RGB+Sync together via resistors on each cable, and thus get a composite video signal to feed via SCART composite input... but I might be wrong! Anyhow, if you go down this route, you need to look for video monitors or (not-the-newest) tv screens/monitors, not analogue PC monitors. Or take advice from other reply. Regards Kåre Olai.
