Perhaps this is the future of desk HUI?

As someone who misses the positional feedback you used to get with quadrant faders this is definitely a step too far. I can't look in two directions at once so I play the faders by feel more than by sight, can't see me wanting to use a touchscreen display for this.

Hmmm, where does one fit the plank? I only just got used to these new fangled desks you could use a ruler on.

Please tell me this is a joke.

Sorry...I know I'm boring and old and I absolutely HATE touch screens and their lack of tactile response. I notice that he talks a lot about being able to mix by listening to the music but, as far as I can tell, the only way to find the right fader is to be staring at the board, not the stage.

All his "and nothing breaks the creative process" is rubbish as far as I'm concerned. The need to be setting groups and staring at the interface is much more of a break in the creative process than using an analogue board where you can FEEL the faders and knobs and watch the stage as you adjust them.

Too graphical or a great improvement?

Slate Pro Audio

Too far, ironically you couldn't mix by touch while you are actually looking at the stage on this thing as there is nothing physical to hold on to and nothing to give you tactile feedback. At the moment this seems to just be a very expensive multitouch UI for controlling DAWs which itself seems to be running on a Mac connected to a large lowish res monitor with a multitouch overlay. The only bit of it that seems to actually be custom in the built in monitor controller and of course the software.

I'm not sure there's a huge market for this kind of thing, consider if you are doing all the mixing 'in the box' in your DAW you probably have an investment in huge monitors and do everything with a mouse or track ball using your DAW's existing mixer interface. At the other end of the scale there are people with big Pro Tools set-ups and ICON D-Control or System5-MC set-ups. This thing is decidedly low rent by those standards.
