spoofking Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I've just helped out at a community gaming event by providing some HDMI splitters etc. to display their PS3's onto our plasma screens and projector. They provided:3 x PS3's3 x 24" TV's We provided:3 x HDMI splitters3 x *HDMI to VGA converters2 x Plasma screens1 x Projector*converters were used to change the signal to VGA as our projector and plasma are only VGA in.During the set up one of our converters failed. Took a while to solve as at one point it seemed that their PS3 didn't even work direct into their own TV's. This 'faulty' PS3 was replaced with a different console and all was well. Although our converter has definitely failed. The problem I now have is that the gaming guys have said that after the event 2 of their PS3s no longer output HDMI. They're honest guys so they're not trying to blame me, they'd just like things sorted. They've been in contact with Sony and they have no explanation for it. I also have no explanation for it. Is there anyway that my failed converter box may have damaged the HDMI output from the PS3? Could it have possibly send a fault, back to PS3 to damage it?? Does anyone know how they might solve their PS3 HDMI problem? This situation is not being blamed on me/my kit but as they've never had this problem before (and they use their PS3s regularly!) until I got involved they are a bit bemused to say the least. ANY IDEAS ANYONE???? Neil.
Joe Bleasdale Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 From personal experience, the HDMI port on the back of the PS3 isnt very goos - so it is very possible that somehow when the splitter failed that it caused a problem. Physical damage to the HDMI port is also pretty easy as its a commercial product made fairly cheaply! Thanks.
Ricky Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I have pad problems with ps3's not out putting via hdmi before because it was fixed to outputting via component. Have you tried a reset to get it back to hdmi output? It's possible that the ps's have reverted back after loosing connection.
dwright2104 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 The xbox 360 and ps3 can only output one type at a time, either component via the scart cable or hdmi. not both at same time, I think theres a setting in console to force the output. the xbox has a way of not allowing you to try both as the scart plug covers over the hdmi socket on the console. this may or may not be the problem, if it is try using the old scart cable to see, and get into settings.
Shez Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 If memory serves, you can reset the output configuration by holding down the power switch for a couple of seconds when you turn it on. I've been through that a couple of times when people had used a PS3 outside of its normal environment then found it wasn't outputting anything back in its usual location with different connections.
peza2010 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 If memory serves, you can reset the output configuration by holding down the power switch for a couple of seconds when you turn it on.. I can confirm this to be correct.
Ian der Laan Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 PS3's do this occasionally. You need to reset the video settings - Press the power button to turn it on and hold it down until it beeps for a second time. It should then recognise when something is connected to the hdmi.
