c.cam108 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I know it's a very general subject, but I'm looking for marquee hire for a camp next year. The only problem is that it's very hard to google for "marquee hire" without getting wedding suppliers that add linings and chandeliers and are in perfect mother-of-the-bride-acceptable condition. How do I go about looking for basic marquee hire? As in no lining, no seating, no windows, basic black carpet - essentially just an empty waterproof shell for a week that we can sit 100 teenagers in for an evening service?
the kid Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 have you asked them ?? I got one last year that came from a company all fancy, but did just the shell for not much at all.
ImagineerTom Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I've yet to meet a marquee hire co that would say no to a job - since 99% of the market is for weddings and parties that is the direction most advertising goes but there's nothing at all stopping any hire co from providing you with just the basics...
kerry davies Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Plenty of your local marquee companies will quote for whatever level of service you require. I don't see many chocolate fountains at the local point to point and farm sales don't normally have linings or even chandeliers for the pig sales. Ring round for a few quotes and haggle. Bear in mind that if you insist on black carpet it might mean flooring as well. Going for matting rather than carpet should be cheaper.
twjlighting Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Field and lawn have a lot of marquees in Scotland
djw1981 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 also don;t be afraid to try further afield than Glasgow - ayrshire / lanarkshire may well be cheaper.
John Diamond Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 You could also try the following - all Scottish based: Arc MarqueesPurvis MarqueesBaillies Marquees Good luck.
callumb Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 www.cheviotmarquees.co.uk/ They will be able to help. They do most if not all the Marquees for Blair Atholl Scout camps!
ladyjayne Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Does it have to be a marquee or would a sectional army tent suffice?
StevieR Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Another Scottish based supplier - Greenfield Marquees
slipstream Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Tents and Events have a base in Greenock and Dunoon - nice people - speak to Janet
cfmonk Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Alas it's a bit far for me! However, as has been said, our websites are dressed up all posh because most of the people who find us through that route are looking for wedding or posh party marquees but if the kits sitting there then you can hire it! That being said, you might struggle to find a great deal hiring just a shell for a week or two in the middle of summer unless you go to one of the really big operators who have a lot of spare kit lying around. If you're going to use it regularly (like every year) and only in the summer then go and look at buying your own marquee-a-like from someone like Gala or DIY Marquees. Chris
