pete10uk Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Afternoon all. I'm wanting to make a custom volume controller faceplate, and would like a bit of advice on a suitable volume pot / best method. I have a stereo amplifier driving 4 speakers (2 on each side) in a reception area. The amplifier is fed via a switch unit which switches between a local iPod and live sound in the venue, the switch is automatic dependant on a VGA signal being sensed, so if the building is in use the VGA input senses the signal and switches to the live sound system, when the building is not in use the VGA is not present and the unit switches to the local iPod for the receptionist to use. I have been asked to provide a remote volume control for this area as they want to lock away the iPod but allow easy volume adjustment to both the iPod and Live sound but from a single knob (as this is the only space available). I can't make up my mind if it is better to adjust the live level between the switch and the amplifier or to adjust the speaker outputs from the amplifier. Could anyone offer me their opinions and recommendations baring in mind that a single knob has been requested and the local and remote signal levels may be different. If you need any further information, just give me a shout. Cheers
Brian Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Something like this... A dual-gang pot to adjust the volume and a couple of preset pots to make the incoming levels match. P1 is the venue sound in, P2 is the iPod, P3 and P7 feed the changeover switch.
