Nicktaylor Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Recently I have bought a few of these second hand. One has a damaged lamp socket. Does anyone know the specific part? I assume it is not a Strand propriety part!
J Pearce Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 It is a standard R7s lamp base. You need a single end version, and they sometimes need packing with a washer or two to get the lamp tight.Farnell or RS should be able to supply.

gyro_gearloose Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 In my experience Strand Codas aren't worth constantly repairing. I've had to replace quite a few lamp bases on our Codas after they got damaged due to the lamp arcing. I assumed the arcing was caused by the new lamp bases being ever so slightly shorter than the originals, and have done the stack of washers trick to get them to fit correctly. I've since discovered that the actual problem is that over time the cast side plates soften and bend where the plate holding the lamp base is attached. Have a close look at yours. You might notice two bumps developing on the side plates. These are caused by the pillars holding the flat aluminium plate being gradually pushed through the side plates by the spring tension holding the lamp. Its a design fault and there's not much you can economically do to fix it.
J Pearce Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Totally agree, the soft aluminium sides are much weaker than the springs in the lamp bases. With care you can at least extend the working life while you scrabble underneath the tier for enough spare change to replace them though.
