Talvik
I use the pangolin FB3 with Quickshow a lot and I like it because you assign all the different laser actions to timing of music. You can have the beam fade every half beat, moves up and down on each beat, then change to a different animation every 16 bars ect. Then the auto bpm detection does its job and everything is pretty much in sync with music, great. Is there a DMX software that works in a similar fashion?I've been using MyDMX and I hate the damn thing, I can only control the lights with steps and assign the hold time between steps. And I wish each light had its own window for controlling the steps so that don't accidentally mess with the movements of other lights when editing steps for a specific light. I wish the program worked a lot more like pangolin Quickshow. Is there such a DMX program?

You just point it to an audio input source (a mic, line out of the mixer, etc), then you can define at which frequencies "bass, mids, highs" are triggered. You can then use these triggers in all your scene and cue programming to do different things.
dbuckley
Red sound make a numbe of DJ tools hat turn music into MIDI clocks, which you can then use with anything that understands said clocks.
mrboo
Showcad is very good. you can play about with the software free as it lets you use it for I think 2 weeks without any limits and there standard output kit is a Enttec DMX USB Pro so you dont need to buy there kit as there unit is the same item they paint black and stick a sticket on it. http://www.showcad.com/downloads.aspx

Funnily enough, I spent a long time the past few years trying to convince Pangolin to make LivePro/Beyond work more like a lighting desk! :)And now in Beyond you have the concept of projector groups and effects spread... ;) happy daze!
