IRW
Hi All, I'm trying to connect a Mac (Running QLab) to our LS9 using Studio Manager, and am constantly getting the 'timeout' error when I try to synchronise. If I pull the network cable from the mac, and plug it into a windows laptop, I can get SM working live with the desk perfectly. The network settings on the mac are pretty much identical to the windows laptop (and no, they're not both on the network at the same time!). I've set all of the various input/output drop down boxes that I can find, but still getting a timeout error. If it's any help, the "Re-synchronise [CMD] O"option of the 'Synchronization' menu at the top of the LS9 editor window is greyed out, but the "Recall" option on the 'Synchronise' menu on the apple menu bar is not. Trying to use this recall option is what gets me the time out error. In the "Master" window within the editor, under Sync it shows "Offline". The "Yamaha Network-Midi" preferences applet can see the console when I perform a search, and has the console in it's Device List. Clock on the desk is the same time/date as the computers, network is definately working. Any thoughts? This is starting to annoy me, I'd prefer not to have an extra computer in an already crowded control box! http://www.irwdesign.com/br/Picture%201.png Thanks, Ian Edited to add screenshot
TimmyP1955
You've missed a port setting someplace. I've had the same problem a few times with PC, even on a rig that had been communicating previously.
neilalexrose
Have you tried communicating with the LS9 via a switch/router? I seem to remember having some similar woes last time I used one, and once I'd put a router/switch in the chain, that sorted it out for me? If not: first port of call would be checking the firmware of the desk and that Mac studio manager with LS9 editor software are correct to communicate with the desk. See yamaha website. Again I had issues when they first bought out the mac drivers for LS9, in that the desk had to be of a minimum firmware, and you had to get the right version of studio manager/LS9 editor to work with it. Sound like you've got the network midi drivers sorted out. The midi settings need sorting in the SM2 shell, before you get into the LS9 bit of the editor. See preferences -> midi settings ->select the appropriate tick boxes for in/out. Then open the LS9 editor, go to file -> system setup -> assign input and output ports to the LS9 (which should appear if they're set up in the SM2 shell preferences.) You should then be able to synchronise/go online with the desk. (Can't remember off the top of my head if you have to adjust the mixer settings in SM2 to make it think it's a 16/32 channel LS9, it might do that for you.) (I've just been through the SM2 settings offline, as I have no LS9 to connect to, but I think I've remembered everything.) HTH Neil
IRW
Hi All, So I came in this morning and had another stab at it. Went through all the input/output settings I found yesterday and set them all again, and suprise suprise, it's magically working. Probably something to do with the order I set them in. I don't understand why it has to be so fiddly to set up when my EOS client connects to the lighting desk without any special hidden settings! Thanks for all input, I'm off back to lighting! TimmyP1955
When connecting without a switch/router, I think you need to use a crossover cable (I can't think of any other reason for having one in my laptop case).
Whale Bone
One more thing... "Set Default" All good tips above, especially about once in the editor, you have to select your MIDI ports from the File menu (File -> System Setup...). The one thing that made it work for me finally was that I had to click the "Set Default" button in the System Setup dialog. No matter how times I chose my ports and said OK, even saving the workspace and loading again after restarting SM2, as soon as I clicked Set Default, the connection to the mixer went online.
