stottyboy
Evening all, I have a bunch of freebie par 36 cans I've inherited and I'd like to know if there's any way the spot lamps can be diffused? They've currently got 6v 30w 5 degree spots in them, but can I get a filter to put over the lens to diffuse the light and create a larger beam angle? All the best, James
Ynot
Most certainly The term you need to use is frost gel from your usual supplier. A wide variety exist, so best to get hold of a swatch book and see which one is likely to suit your needs. That said, re-reading the post, you ask about increasing the beam angle - yes frost will sort of do that, BUT not in quite the same way as using a different lamp with a wider angle set by the lens. Ashley R
Realistically you are not going to get any kind of decent flood, or wash out of PAR 36's (Otherwise known as pinspots) fitted with those lamps, even with a chunk of frost. They are designed as beam lights with those lamps fitted, You could go out and try to find some other 6V lamps that have a wider beam angle (Do they even exist?) or actually go buy some proper fixtures (e.g. PAR 56's, or Fresnels, depending on what you wish to do)
Don Allen
You will lose intensity in the frost material. There was a thread recently on outdoor Par36 or pindpots. As Ashley says, swap out the lamp for a wider beamwidth AR111
