SceneMaster Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 Hi, I want to buy wysiwyg educational license… I have got the demo and have looked at the web and read the many topics on it on this site… I will only be able to afford the educational report dongle version (£75). Basically is the report educational dongle the full report software? Does this licence run out like every year meaning I will have to buy a new dongle every year? I am kind of confused by the demo… (mine is release 9) it doesn’t clearly state the separation between packages (ok well it didn’t seem like that to me). What I gather is that report will do all scheduling paper work ect that wysiwyg can do and will do wire frame 2D designs and plots. This is where I got confused… can you get the iso view ins report so you can see you plot in wireframe 3D? and can see each beam of light (wire frame) individually for focusing purposes, but without the ability to put in the wire frame gobo images and wire frame colour of a lamp or can you do this? I presume that you cannot render any proper images in report but only print out wireframes? As you can see I am rather confused… Could someone give me a list of exactly what the report education dongle will allow me to do in relation to the above (as I have said I have done my research but it wasn’t very clear, well to me). What I want to be able to do at minimum is design a 2D rig and plan and used the report tools to create schedules and all the paper work (firstly for my exam in may). Thanks for your help, Jon I have looked at other software such as turbo cad but it just didn’t cut it!!!
kalmatthew Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 I have WYSIWYG report Educational. It allows you to make 2D designs and the reporting features, you can also take the plans to higher version of wyg and use any of the other features. All printouts will contain an image that states that you are using the educational version of the software. You get a 1 year subscription that covers software upgrades and libary updates after a year you can update this or not depending on what you want. Rember the £75 figure is proably without VAT. So in summary, it will do what you want, but will add a watermark that states that it is an education version.
peter Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 The really annoying thing IMHO about Report educational is the fact that you can't go into 3D wireframe view, making it difficult to check complicated CAD plans. I probably won't be renewing my subscription, unless I see dramatic improvements in the software.
Doug kelly Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Hi Scenemaster Having used WYSWYG for the last 5 years or so I will say it is very good at what it does there are a few problems with it but it is still very good. From reading the spec sheet for the educational report see the link http://www2.castltg.com/cast/files/English_Report1(A4).pdf It appears you do not get the iso view but do get the side back and front views. It does not appear to let you focus the beams in wire frame, I might be wrong, you may need to go up to Design to do that. Quite a few of our freelancers have the report package and use it it to do their designs then come in here and use Perform to hook up the desk etc. The one years subscription allows you updates for that period. After it has expired you can still use the program but won't be able to upgrade the program so any library changes for new lights and tweaks on old ones will not be available to you. I would recommend you talk to one of the sellers of the system to find out exactly what it will do. I can recommend AC Lighting as that is where we bought ours. I think it is Lee House who deals with it at AC. Is it just Lighting you wish to use the package for as there are other cad packages which have better cad functions? Hope this helps Doug
Lee House Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Hi there Jon, Please feel free to contact me at AC here and I will be able to help. My mail is Lee.house@aclighting.com or you can reach me on 01494 838325. Kind regards Lee House
