Hi. I have a sennheiser Freeport hand held mic but no base unit for it. Does anyone know where I could get one from? Does anyone have one kicking around that they don't want? I do a lot of charity work so cheaper the better. Any advice would be great :)

Can't help sourcing anything.... but it's worth knowing they are Trantec 4.4 units rebadged. It's actually the mic capsule that's different, the radio parts are one and the same.

You can buy a complete Trantec 4.4 or Sennheiser Freeport (although I'm not sure Sennheiser are still selling them?) for about £120, then it may be worth considering just buying a new system and you have a spare transmitter :)

I suspect there won't be too many second hand, they are the type of system people will tend to use to destruction, especially as they have almost no second hand value when you compare to high-end kit that cost £100's or £1k's new...

Best option might be to eBay the transmitter (or offer it in the classifieds here) and put the proceeds towards a new, complete system. This is unlikely to cost you any more than sourcing a spare receiver would - the economies of scale in shipping containerloads of complete systems around means that the individual parts are, proportionally, far more expensive.

My experience is that it's the transmitters which are more likely to get lost or broken (since they're the parts that the talent get to (ab)use) which means that they will be more likely to be in demand from the second hand market than a receiver.

There are at least two rx unit only auctions on eBay at present. As noted also search using the Trantec description.

From memory the Trantec frequencies are slightly different to those used on the Freeport - if so they wont interchangeable.

For everyones info the Freeport was designed and built by trantec for Sennheiser and we can re-programm either unit to any frequencies between 820 and 950MHz
