Alec Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 The DI20 has been discussed (and largely reviled to death) here, here, here and here for a start. Though I still don't know what the minority who have no problems with it are actually doing with it! But the standard recommendations for what to buy end up going much like this: Cheap (~£20-25): Behringer DI-100, StudioSpares Active DI Mid (~£40-60): Orchid Electronics Classic DI (actually, it's cheaper than I thought - £36 inc VAT & delivery!), MTR DI-3 Pricier & very rider friendly (£100+): BSS AR133, Radial J48, KT DN100
BigYinUK Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Alec - Just the job, very useful for me. I had a Behringer DI20 (stand corrected about the model number mistake), and it was so bad I never actually used it in anger. Talk about noisey, it was *awful*. I took it back to the shop and bought 2 x Samson S-Directs from Thomann and they were excellent. Need a couple of "preloved" DI boxes now, hence the question. :) Tx all
cedd Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I use LA Audio DI2's and think they're pretty nice. Sometimes crop up on eBay pretty cheap, and they're not too bad brand new either. If passive is the way you go then I've also got some of the Emo ones that I really like too.
Doug Siddons Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Big Yin your in Devon, go and see Orchid in Exeter ie mixmend on this forum
deitel Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 +1 for the studio spares ones. Good sound and price, only downside is the build quality. The internal housing isn't that solid, so protecting them from bumps/kicks is a must...
john deans Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Personally for active boxes I use the BSS for passive boxes the EMO have realy good transformers and just go for ever both are very rider frendly
TimmyP1955 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I had DI-100s when I didn't know any better. Once tried a client's entry level Whirlwind and it sounded better. I now have Radial Pro series. The EWI DI's are pretty good - don't know if they are distributed on your side.
